SK Sturm Graz Stats & History
Workers in Graz founded SK Sturm Graz in 1909. They immediately started a rivalry with neighbors Grazer AK, which was a team founded by academics. Sturm Graz found success in the regional leagues, winning 11 Styrian titles between 1921 and 1949.
When Austria was annexed by the Nazi regime in 1938, Austrian clubs began to take part in German competitions. Sturm Graz took part in the Tschammerpokal, the equivalent of the modern-day DFB-Pokal. They also played in one of the top flight regional Gauligas established by the Germans.
The first season in the Austrian national league, in the Sturm Graz stats, was after the war in 1949. They became the first non-Vienna side to take part in the league. Sturm Graz’s first European campaign was in the 1970-71 UEFA Cup. Arsenal knocked them out in the second round.

SK Sturm Graz Team Records
Sturm Graz nearly won the Austrian Bundesliga title in 1980-81 but came in second place. Their best performance in the UEFA Cup came in 1983-84. It took Nottingham Forest extra time to knock Sturm Graz out in the quarterfinals.
The best period in the SK Sturm Graz stats was in the mid-to-late 90s, under Ivica Osim.
