FC Midtjylland Stats & History
Two men named Johnny Rune and Steen Hessel created FC Midtjylland in 1999. They merged rival clubs Ikast and Herning to compete in the highest level of Danish soccer. It was the culmination of 10 years of effort. Neither Ikast nor Herning had ever won a major trophy on their own, even though Ikast had made the final of the Danish Cup three times.
In FC Midtjylland’s first season, they dominated the second tier of Danish soccer. They managed to compile a +61 goal difference and won the league with a 14-point cushion. So, the first Danish Superliga season in the FC Midtjylland stats was in 2000-01. Midtjylland outperformed expectations and finished in fourth place. They improved the next season, finishing in third place. They also made the final of the Danish Cup and qualified for the UEFA Cup.
In 2004, FC Midtjylland created an academy with inspiration from French soccer. They had all of their academy players live full-time at the Ikast Sports Center and plenty of academy graduates have come through the ranks in recent years. Midtjylland made the final of the Danish Cup again in 2004-05, but fell to league champions Brondby.
FC Midtjylland ended the 2006-07 and 2007-08 Danish Superliga seasons in second place in the table. Brentford FC owner Matthew Benham bought a majority stake of the club in July 2014. The first season Benham owned the team, they won the first-ever Danish Superliga in the FC Midtjylland stats.

Midtjylland have won trophies in four of the last five seasons, including league titles in 2018 and 2020. They won their first Danish Cup in 2019, and were victorious in 2022 with a penalty shootout victory over OB. FCM also participated in the Champions League group stage for the first time in the 2020-21 campaign.
With a second-place Superliga finish in 2021-22, FCM made the Champions League qualifiers. As of August 2022, they could end up in any of the three major UEFA competitions. In 2021-22, they did well considering their longshot Europa League odds, and they lost just one group stage match. Betting advice often considers the fact that Midtjylland haven’t finished lower than second in the Superliga since the 2016-17 season.
