ES Troyes AC Stats & History
Residents of Troyes created Union Sportive Troyenne in 1900, the first ever soccer club in the city. In 1931 they merged with suburban club AS Savinienne to form the Association Sportive Troyenne et Savinienne. In 1935, the club became professional and played in Ligue 2, the second tier of French soccer.
The 1950s go down as one of the best periods in the Troyes stats. In 1955, Troyes reached Ligue 1– then called the Premiere Division- for the first time. One year later, Troyes made their first Coupe de France final, but fell 3-1 to CS Sedan Ardennes. Just seven years later, Troyes were back in the third tier playing in a regional league.
Financial difficulty followed and the club folded in 1967. Troyes Omnisports took their place and were promoted to the second division in 1971. They returned to the top tier in 1973, and staved off relegation for five years.
Back-to-back relegations killed the club’s finances, and they once again went bankrupt in 1979. A new club, Association Troyes Aube Champagne, was created and they managed to reach the fourth division by 1987. Troyes won the fourth division in 1990 and were back in the third tier. In 1996, Troyes returned to the second tier for the first time since 1979. Within three years, they managed to reach Ligue 1 again.

ES Troyes AC Team Records
Troyes finished in 14th place in 1999-2000 and changed their name to the current ES Troyes AC. One of the most memorable moments in the ES Troyes stats is their 2001 UEFA Intertoto Cup win over Newcastle. As a result, Troyes qualified for the UEFA Cup for the first time.
Later in the 2000s, Troyes bounced around divisions, and were playing in the third tier by 2009. Just four years later, they earned promotion to Ligue 1, but were immediately relegated. Since then, Troyes have been promoted three times and relegated twice. They won Ligue 2 in both 2015 and 2021. Despite getting relegated in their previous four top-tier seasons, Troyes defied their Ligue 1 odds, and finished 15th in 2021-22.
Troyes are the joint-least likely team to win Ligue 1 in 2022-23, with +200000 odds. Betting advice suggests they could struggle to avoid relegation this season.
