RC Strasbourg Alsace Stats History
Schoolchildren in Strasbourg, then part of the German empire, founded FC Neudorf in 1906. In 1919, the club changed its name to RC Strasbourg Neudorf, and then to Racing Club de Strasbourg. They were champions of the Alsace region three times in the 1920s, and joined the French soccer second division in 1933.
It only took one season for Strasbourg to earn a promotion to the top division. Some of the more impressive Strasbourg stats from that era were second and third-place finishes in their first two Division 1 seasons. The German occupation halted the club’s activities, but post-WWII, Strasbourg had a solid team.
They finished third in 1947, reached the Coupe de France final, and won their first major trophy a few years later. Strasbourg defeated Valenciennes 3-0 in the 1951 Coupe de France final. In between a few relegations and promotions, Strasbourg beat Nantes in the 1966 Coupe de France final as well.
Strasbourg had a difficult start to the 70s with a few relegations. They returned to the top tier in 1977, and managed a surprise third-place finish in their first season back. One of the most notable RC Strasbourg stats is their 1978-79 Division 1 title, which they won over powerhouses Nantes and Saint-Etienne.
The next season, Strasbourg made the quarterfinals of the European Cup, but declined afterward. Their fifth and seventh place finishes in 1979-80 and 1980-81, respectively, would be their best in the next forty years. Strasbourg have managed to win a few trophies since, though.

In 1995, they won the UEFA Intertoto Cup and followed it up with a 1997 Coupe de la Ligue triumph. In the 2000s, Strasbourg managed to win both the Coupe de France and Coupe de La Ligue.
However, Strasbourg were later relegated and dropped down to the third tier for the first time in their history in 2010. In 2011, the club went bankrupt and had to make the long climb up from the fifth tier.
Strasbourg returned to the second tier in 2016, and immediately won promotion to Ligue 1. In 2019, Strasbourg won the Coupe de la Ligue, which capped off a massive turnaround in club history. Betting advice suggests Strasbourg are on the rise as they finished in sixth place in 2021-22 under Julien Stephan. Ligue 1 odds list Strasbourg as +15000 longshots to win the title in 2022-23.
