Arminia Bielefeld Stats & History

Fourteen local Bielefeld men founded Arminia Bielefeld in 1905 and they joined the German Football Association that same year. The first big achievement in the Arminia team stats was a 1912 Westphalian championship win.

Arminia Bielefeld won the West German championship for the first time in 1922 and advanced to the national championship. However, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals. The 1920s were one of Arminia’s best decades as they repeated West German champions in 1923. They also added a pair of Westphalian titles to close out the decade.

The club had a spell in the top flight for a time in the 1930s but declined shortly after. In 1949-49, Arminia played in the third tier for the first time in their history. After playing in the lower leagues for much of the 50s and 60s, they won their first promotion to the Bundesliga in 1970.

Arminia clinched their place in Germany’s top division with a 2-0 win in the playoffs vs. Tennis Borussia Berlin. Their stay in the top flight was short-lived. They were embroiled in a match-fixing scandal and relegated.

Arminia Bielefeld Team Records

The club returned to the Bundesliga in 1978. Then, they recorded one of the most impressive results in the Arminia Bielefeld team stats in 1979. At Bayern Munich, Arminia won 4-0 but were relegated. They returned after one season in the second division and finished eighth in 1983 and 1984. Quickly, the club went from participating in the Intertoto Cup to two relegations and financial woes.

In the 90s, the club signed some top players and progressed from the third tier to the Bundesliga once again. Arminia bounced around the top two divisions for several years but were DFB-Pokal semifinalists in 2005 and 2006. As a third division side, in 2014-15, Arminia reached the semifinals once again. That same year, they earned promotion to the 2. Bundesliga.

Arminia’s most recent spell in the Bundesliga lasted from 2020 to 2022. They finished with just 28 points in the 2021-22 season and were relegated. So, to bet on Arminia Bielefeld in 2022-23 be sure to check out the 2. Bundesliga odds instead of the Bundesliga odds. With all-time leading scorer Fabian Klos still on the roster, betting advice gives Arminia a shot at another promotion, a shot at Bundesliga standings, and a place in the Bundesliga schedule, for sure.
