Hertha Berlin Stats & History
Named after a steamship, Hertha BSC was founded in 1892. Hertha did well in their early years, winning a Berlin championship in 1905. They also defeated English club Southend United in 1910, during a time of English dominance in soccer. In 1920 Hertha merged with Berliner Sport Club.
In the late 20s and early 30s, Hertha were a force to be reckoned with. The Hertha Berlin team stats show that they qualified for the German championship final in six straight years. In 1930 and 1931, they won the German championship title, their only major trophies to date.
After WWII, Hertha suffered a period of decline as Berlin was a city heavily divided. In 1949-50, the West Berlin club was banned from playing against teams from East Berlin. With the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, this division became even more pronounced. Although, the club did quite well in the early 1960s.

Hertha Berlin Team Records
In 1963, as Berlin champions, Hertha became a founding member of the Bundesliga. Mired in debt and scandals over the next few seasons, the club barely survived. A second-place finish in the Bundesliga was registered in the Hertha BSC team stats in 1974-75, though. They also managed to make the final of the DFB-Pokal in 1977 and 1979 and the semifinals of the 1979 UEFA Cup.
The 80s were one of the most challenging periods for the club. They played just one Bundesliga season and slipped down to the third division. In 1994, the club was in serious debt once again but managed to reach the Bundesliga by 1997. They played in European competitions regularly and finished in fourth place in 2002, 2005, and 2009.
They were relegated in both 2010 and 2012 but immediately returned by winning the 2. Bundesliga on both occasions. Since returning to the Bundesliga in 2013, Hertha has had their ups and downs. They’ve qualified for the Europa League twice but their last couple of seasons have been challenging.
In 2021-22, Hertha escaped relegation by defeating 2. Bundesliga side Hamburg in the relegation/promotion playoff. Most betting advice states that Hertha Berlin should improve in the 2022-23 season. The Bundesliga odds price them at +1000 to be relegated, as 10 other teams have shorter odds.
