RB Leipzig Stats & History
The rise of RB Leipzig is quite incredible. Red Bull, yes the energy drink company, decided to invest in German soccer in the mid-2000s. They settled on Leipzig as a suitable location as no team from there had played in the Bundesliga since 1994.
So, in 2009 Dietrich Mateschitz and Red Bull founded RB Leipzig and they began playing in the fifth tier of German soccer. Their goal was to play in the top division within eight years, but the odds were somewhat stacked against them.
On their first try, RB Leipzig won the NOFV–Oberliga Süd which earned them promotion to the Regionalliga Nord. Leipzig’s Zentralstadion was renamed Red Bull Arena in 2010 and the club adopted it as their home.
In the 2010-11 season, Leipzig finished fourth and missed out on promotion but won the Saxony Cup. With the win, they qualified for their first ever DFB-Pokal and knocked out Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg. After missing out on promotion again, the club hired Ralf Rangnick for the sporting director role. In 2012-13, they won promotion to the 3. Liga for the first time.

RB Leipzig Team Records
RB Leipzig’s first season in the third tier was a success. They finished in second place and became the first team to win promotion to the 2. Bundesliga after just one season in the third tier. Management invested huge sums of money in the club ahead of their first second-tier season and they managed to finish in fifth place.
One of the most historic moments in the RB Leipzig stats was during the 2015-16 season. They achieved their lofty goal of reaching the Bundesliga in eight years by finishing in second place in the 2. Bundesliga. Incredibly, Leipzig were undefeated through their first 13 Bundesliga matches in 2016-17. They became the first Bundesliga debutant to qualify for European competition as they finished in second place. Not only that, they qualified for Europe’s most prestigious competition, the Champions League.
Leipzig made the quarterfinals of the 2017-18 Europa League after finishing third in their UCL group. They also made their first DFB-Pokal final in 2019. In 2020, just 11 years after the club was founded, Leipzig made the Champions League semifinals. Another historic moment in the Leipzig team stats was their 2022 DFB-Pokal win, their first-ever major trophy. They drew with SC Freiburg 1-1 but defeated them 4-2 on penalties.
The Bundesliga odds price RB Leipzig at +1200 odds to win their first Bundesliga title in 2022-23. With an excellent season behind them, under first-year head coach Domenico Tedesco, betting advice implies Leipzig are title contenders.
