SC Freiburg Stats & History
A merger of Sportverein Freiburg 04 in 1909 and Union Freiburg formed Sportclub Freiburg in 1909. Throughout their history, success has been hard to come by. They reached the top tier of German soccer for the first time in 1933-34 but were immediately relegated from the Gauliga Baden.
Post-WWII they also played in the top flight Zonenliga Sud for five years. From the 50s to the tail end of the 70s, SC Freiburg played in the third-tier amateur league. In 1978, they finally achieved promotion back to the second division. In 1993, the SC Freiburg team stats show that they played in the Bundesliga for the first time.
In their first Bundesliga season, Freiburg fought off relegation. Then, defying their Bundesliga odds in 1994-95, they finished in a best-ever third place. With that, they qualified for the 1995-96 UEFA Cup, their first ever European competition, but went out in the first round. Freiburg got relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time in 1997.

SC Freiburg Team Records
After a second-place finish in the 2. Bundesliga, Freiburg returned to the top tier. They reached the UEFA Cup once again in 2001, reaching the third round. After that, Freiburg suffered a pair of relegations from the Bundesliga in the 2000s.
One of their longest spells in the top tier was from 2009 to 2015. In 2012-13, they registered a fifth-place finish in the Freiburg team stats, which meant qualification for the Europa League group stage for the first time. Their most recent relegation was in 2015 but they returned just one season later.
Freiburg has now registered three consecutive top-ten finishes. In 2021-22, they reached the DFB-Pokal final for the first time but fell to RB Leipzig. After finishing in sixth place, they’ll be playing in the Europa League in the 2022-23 season.
Most betting advice implies that SC Freiburg could take a step back in 2022-23 after losing key defender Nico Schlotterbeck. SC Freiburg sits at just +2000 odds to make the Bundesliga top four for the first time since the 1994-95 season.
