Bologna Stats & History
As the name Bologna FC 1909 implies, Bologna were founded in 1909 by an Austrian named Emilio Arnstein. The club was relatively successful early on, as they won the national league for the first time in 1925. They won the Scudetto once more in the 20s, in 1929.
In fact, Bologna stats clearly show that their most successful period was before WWII. Their top scorer of all-time, Angelo Schiavio, played for BFC from 1922 to 1939. Bologna also won four more titles from 1936 to 1941.
Bologna’s latest Serie A title was in 1964 and they played in the European Cup/Champions League for the first and only time in 1964-65. While Bologna were usually title contenders, they were less successful in the league in the 70s and 80s. However, they did win their only Coppa Italia trophies in 1970 and 1974.

In the 1980s, Bologna slipped down to the Serie C1 but returned to the top tier just four years later. They bounced around divisions a lot during this period but managed to win European silverware in the late 90s. Bologna won a share of the 1998 UEFA Intertoto Cup, with a 2-0 win over Ruch Chorzow in one of the three finals.
In the mid 2000s, Bologna spent three seasons in Serie B and struggled upon their return to Serie A. One of the more unfortunate Bologna stats comes from the 2013-14 season. Bologna’s leading scorer, Alessandro Diamanti scored just six goals. BFC scored well under a goal a game en route to another relegation.
Bologna’s most recent spell in Serie A began in 2015-16, and they finished in the top half in 2018-19. UEFA competition has been few and far between, as they haven’t played in Europe since 1999-2000.
Bologna have conceded over a goal per game in their last 13 Serie A seasons. When betting on their Serie A odds, understand that they haven’t finished a season with a positive goal difference since 1997-98. When betting on Bologna next season, sound betting advice would be to take the opponent ATS.
