Genoa FC Stats & History

Genoa FC was founded in 1893 as Genoa Cricket & Athletic club, and Italians were originally unable to join. This was because the club was set up as an English society, hence the flag in Genoa’s logo. Italians were allowed to join as of 1897, and the club had their best ever period soon after.

The Genoa FC stats show that they won six of the first seven Italian Championships, with a record of 11-1 as of 1904. Other clubs started to catch up to Genoa in the coming years but Genoa’s players had a big part in the Italian national team. William Garbutt, Genoa’s manager from 1912 to 1927, was the first professional manager in Italy.

In 1915, Genoa won another title, but their club took a big hit in WWI as multiple players died in the line of fire. Regardless, Genoa won two more league titles in the 1920s, which remain their most recent league triumphs to this day. One of the more interesting Genoa FC stats is that they were the first team to wear the famous Scudetto patch.

Serie A - Betting News

Genoa CFC Team Records

Genoa were first relegated to Serie B in 1934 but returned to Serie A soon after and won the 1937 Coppa Italia. The club suffered a decline after WWII and regularly finished in the bottom half of the table. Genoa bounced around Serie A and Serie B in the 1950s and 60s. They even had a brief spell in Serie C in 1970-71 but won promotion on their first attempt.

Through the 80s and 90s, Genoa were more regular participants in Serie B than Serie A. However, they managed a surprise fourth place Serie A finish in 1990-91. They made the semifinals of the UEFA Cup in 1991-92 but have only qualified for Europe once since then.

Genoa once again found themselves in Serie C in 2005-06 but engineered two consecutive promotions. From 2007 to 2022, Genoa played in Serie A and finished in fifth place in 2008-09.

Their Serie A odds were a tough proposition in 2021-22, as they finished in 19th place and dropped back down to Serie B. Betting advice suggests Genoa could be a contender for promotion back to Serie A, though.
