Torino FC Stats & History

In 1906 Internazionale Torino and Football Club Torinese merged to form Foot-Ball Club Torino. Torino first participated in the Prima Categoria, then the first division of Italian soccer, in 1908. They finished in fourth in their first season and nearly won the league in 1915 but finished in second.

In 1927, Torino won their first Scudetto with the “Trio of Wonders” of Julio Libonatti, Adolfo Baloncieri and Gino Rossetti. However, the title was revoked later that year. Next season, the trio dominated the Torino FC stats once again and they won their first official league title.

In 1936, Torino won their first Coppa Italia trophy and finished third place in the league. The best period in club history was during the 1940s. Nicknamed “Grande Torino”, the 1940s side won five league titles, including a league and Coppa Italia double in 1943. One of the most impressive Torino FC stats is the fact that they were the first team to achieve this feat.

Their success was abruptly ended by an air disaster in 1949, which claimed the lives of the entire team and reserves. In the wake of the tragedy, the team declined and Torino were relegated to Serie B for the first time in 1959. However, their stay only lasted one season and they were promoted in what would become a 30-year spell in Serie A.

In 1967, Torino won the Coppa Italia despite the death of talented winger Gigi Meroni. The Granata also won the Coppa Italia in 1971 and won their most recent Scudetto in 1976. They beat out Turin rivals Juventus by just two points. Torino played in European competition in nearly every year of the 70s.

Despite a second place finish in 1985, Torino were relegated for a second time in 1989. Once again, Torino were promoted after one season in Serie B and made the UEFA Cup in 1991-92. They finished as runners up to Ajax on away goals. Torino picked up another Coppa Italia trophy in 1993.

Around the turn of the century, Torino bounced around Serie A and Serie B and declared bankruptcy in 2005. Torino’s most recent spell in Serie A started in 2012-13 and their highest finish has been seventh on two occasions.

Betting advice implies Torino are expected to be a mid-table side in 2022-23. They come into the season with +50000 Serie A odds to win the Scudetto.
