FC Sheriff Stats & History
Established in 1996, FC Tiras Tiraspol is from Transnistria, a breakaway state. Despite this fact, they play in the Moldovan soccer leagues, and started in the third division. In their first season, Sheriff managed to achieve promotion to the second division, with a first-place finish. Viktor Gusan, one of the founders of the security company Sheriff, refounded the club as FC Sheriff Tiraspol in 1997.
In their first second-division season, Sheriff Tiraspol scored another promotion to the top tier National Division. The first major trophy in the FC Sheriff stats was the 1999 Moldovan Cup. That same season, they finished in fourth place in the Moldovan National Division. They got close to winning their first top-tier title in 1999-2000, but ultimately came in second place in the league.
Then, Sheriff started their unprecedented dominance of Moldovan soccer. They won the league ten consecutive times from 2000-01 to 2009-10. From 2001 to 2008, Sheriff entered the UEFA Champions League in the First Qualifying Round. Each year, they managed to get past the first round but were knocked out in the second.
Sheriff made their UEFA group stage debut in the 2009-10 Europa League, and finished in third place in their group. The incredible title streak in the FC Sheriff stats was broken in 2010-11, as Dacia Chisinau won the Moldovan National Division title. Sheriff responded with three consecutive titles, plus a couple more Europa League appearances.

Currently, FC Sheriff Tiraspol is on a seven-year league title streak, and are already the most successful club in Moldova’s history. Their 20 league titles, 11 Moldovan Cup wins, and seven Super Cup trophies are all records.
