Almeria FC Stats & History
There have been multiple clubs in Almeria over the years but Almeria Club de Futbol wasn’t founded until 1989. In 2001, their name was changed to the current Union Deportiva Almeria after a merger with Polideportivo Almeria.
Early on, Almeria spent time in the third and fourth divisions but established themselves in the second division in the early 2000s. The first major achievement in the Almeria FC stats came in 2007. Under Unai Emery, they finished in second place in the Segunda Division and secured their first promotion to La Liga.
In the 2007-08 La Liga season, Almeria finished in eighth place, which remains their best top-flight season. With 13 goals, Alvaro Negredo kept UD Almeria competitive. However, Unai Emery left to coach Valencia at the end of the 2007-08 season.
Almeria managed to produce mid-table finishes in their next two La Liga seasons, in the 11th and 13th. In 2010-11, the same season they made the Copa del Rey semifinals, Almeria were relegated. Following a two-season absence, Almeria returned to La Liga in 2013 and just barely avoided relegation.

The club shuffled through three managers in the 2014-15 season and the personnel changes weren’t enough to avoid relegation. Over the next four seasons, Almeria were a mid-table Segunda Division side but markedly improved in 2019-20. The impetus was the takeover of the club by Turki-Al Sheikh, the head of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Entertainment.
They finished fourth in both 2019-20 and 2020-21, getting close to promotion on both occasions. In 2021, they made the Copa del Rey quarterfinals for the second time in club history. Then, Almeria won the Segunda Division in 2021-22 for the first time behind the league’s best defense. Umar Sadiq topped the Almeria FC team stats, with 18 league goals.
The La Liga odds price Almeria as massive +50000 longshots to win their first title in 2022-23. Interestingly, these odds are on par or better than seven other teams. With considerable investment in young players, betting advice predicts Almeria could be a surprise team this season.
