CA Osasuna Stats & History

Osasuna was established in 1920 and their first professional season, in 1928, was in the third division. By 1932 they were in the second division and made it to La Liga for the first time in 1935. They reached two Copa Del Rey semifinals in the 1930s but were unable to advance to the final in either.

The club’s personnel was decimated by the Spanish Civil War and Osasuna took years to recover. After 1936, they didn’t play in the top division again until 1954. In the 50s and 60s, they were frequently getting promoted to La Liga and relegated back to the second division.

In 1967 the club’s current stadium, the Estadio El Sadar, opened. A notable moment in the CA Osasuna stats is qualifying for their first ever UEFA Cup in 1985. They defeated Scottish club Rangers in the first round but were eliminated in the second round.

In 1991, Osasuna managed a fourth place finish in La Liga, which was their best-ever at the time. They reached the third round of the UEFA Cup in the following season but were relegated in 1994.

CA Osasuna Team Records

Osasuna spent six years in the Segunda Division but returned to Spain’s top tier in 2000. They were close to Copa Del Rey glory in the 2000s as they made the semifinals in 2003 and the final in 2005. In the latter, they lost to Real Betis in extra time.

Los Rojillos equaled their best-ever La Liga finish in 2006, finishing in fourth. They entered the Champions League qualifying stages for the first time but were eliminated before the group stage. The best-ever European performance in the CA Osasuna stats is a semifinals berth in the 2006-07 UEFA Cup. They knocked out Bordeaux, Rangers and Bayer Leverkusen but fell to fellow La Liga club Sevilla in the semis.

In the 2010s, Osasuna bounced around divisions but were able to win the 2019 Segunda Division to secure promotion back to La Liga. They’ve performed better than their La Liga odds would suggest and haven’t finished worse than 11th since returning. Betting advice in 2022-23 suggests Osasuna are one of the least likely teams to win the league, though. None of their players scored more than 10 goals in all competitions in 2021-22.
