Elche FC Stats & History
Elche CF was founded in 1923 after all of the area teams merged. Their first league season, in 1929-30, was in the third division. Los Franjiverdes earned promotion to the second division for the first time in 1934.
In the early years, Elche were unable to break through to the top tier and spent a lot of time in the third division. One of the most impressive Elche FC stats is their two consecutive promotions in 1958 and 1959. They won the Tercera Division in 1958 and reached La Liga for the first time in 1959, by winning the Segunda Division.
Surprisingly, Elche’s first spell in La Liga was a long one as they survived from 1959 to 1971. Los Franjiverdes finished a respectable tenth in 1959-60 and one of the most notable Elche FC stats comes from the 1963-64 season. They finished a best-ever fifth place in La Liga in ‘63-’64 and made their first and only Copa Del Rey final in 1969. After 12 seasons in the top flight, they were relegated in 1971.
Just two years later, Elche returned to La Liga for a five-year stay. They didn’t win any silverware but finished in eighth place in 1974-75. After relegation in 1978, Elche returned to La Liga twice in the 80s, but only for one season each. Most of their time in the 80s was spent in the second division, while they were regularly in the third division in the 90s.

Elche FC Team Records
In the 2000s, Elche were mainstays in the second division and were mostly a mid-table club. Los Franjiverdes kicked off the 2010s with a sixth place finish and improved in 2011. They finished fourth but were eliminated in the promotion playoffs. By winning the Segunda Division in 2013, Elche returned to La Liga for the first time in 24 years.
They did well to stave off relegation in two seasons in the top flight, beating their La Liga odds. However, they were sent down to the second tier due to regulations limiting debt. In 2017-18, Elche were back in the third division but miraculously returned to La Liga within three years.
Betting advice suggests Elche are one of the least likely teams to win La Liga in 2022-23. However, they finished 13th in 2021-22 which matches their best finish since 1976-77.
