Malmo FF Stats & History
In 1910, members of the youth team Bollklubben Idrott founded Malmo FF. Malmo played their first seasons in local and regional leagues and joined the newly formed Swedish soccer second division in 1920. Their first season in the top division was in 1921, but they were relegated after just a season.
Malmo returned to the top flight in 1931. However, they were relegated in 1934 for paying their players at a time when amateurism was the law of the land. Malmo returned to the Allsvenskan in 1937, and Eric Persson, one of the most important figures in club history, was elected chairman.
Finally, in the 1940s, the Swedish soccer club won major silverware and Malmo did it in style. They won the first domestic double in the Malmo FF stats in 1944 with Allsvenskan and Svenska Cupen wins. Over the next nine seasons, they finished in the top three each year. Malmo won league titles in 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1953 and Swedish Cups in 1946, 1947, 1951 and 1953.

Malmo FF Team Records
Malmo won a few trophies in the 1960s but the 70s are generally regarded as the best decade in club history. They managed to add five Allsvenskan titles and four Svenska Cupen trophies to the Malmo FF stats. After their league title in 1978, they qualified for the 1978-79 European Cup, now the Champions League. They went on a famous run, knocking out AS Monaco, Dynamo Kyiv, Wisla Krakow, and Austria Wien en route to the final.
In the final, Malmo came up against the English side Nottingham Forest. Trevor Francis scored the game’s only goal, and Malmo’s run came to an end. Their performance is generally considered the greatest success in the history of the club, despite not winning silverware.
Malmo have continued to be successful, especially since 2010. They’ve won seven Allsvenskan trophies and a Svenska Cupen in the last 12 years. 2022 marked their first Svenska Cupen since 1989, though.
As of August 2022, Malmo are three points outside of the top spot in the Allsvenskan. Betting advice often mentions their inconsistency on the road, with just three wins in eight. They’re currently taking part in Europa League qualifiers, so bettors will have to wait for another UCL appearance to bet on their Champions League odds.
