Fenerbahce SK Stats & History
A group of three Istanbul men from the Kadikoy neighborhood secretly founded Fenerbahce SK in 1907 under strict Ottoman rule. Fenerbahce joined the Istanbul Football League in 1909 and first won the league in 1911-12. They were undefeated throughout the season.
The first Turkish championship in the Fenerbahce SK stats was in 1933. Fenerbahce established themselves as one of the best clubs in Turkey with seven more titles before 1950. In 1959, they became a founding member of the first professional Turkish league, now known as the Super Lig. Fenerbahce were the first champions of the league and played in the 1959-60 European Cup.
They added four more Turkish league championships to the Fenerbahce SK stats in the 1960s. In 1963-64, Fenerbahce advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Cup Winners’ Cup. Fenerbahce became the first Turkish club to win an international competition when they won the 1966-67 Balkans Cup. In 1968, Fenerbahce also won the knockout-style Turkish Cup for the first time.
Fenerbahce continued to add to their trophy case in the 1970s and 80s. They won the league four times in the 70s and were victorious in a couple of Turkish Cups. In the 80s, they were Turkish champions three more times. In 1985, Fenerbahce also became the first Turkish club to get past the first round of the European Cup for nearly 10 years.
