Columbus Crew Stats & History
Columbus Crew was one of the ten founding members of the MLS in 1996. They were awarded the first pick of the inaugural MLS draft and used it on striker Brian McBride. It was a good pick, as McBride went on to top the Columbus Crew team stats as their all-time leading scorer.
The Crew made the playoffs in each of their first four seasons. However, they lost in the Conference final in 1997, 1998, and 1999. They also made the 1998 U.S. Open Cup final but lost to Chicago Fire.
Columbus had the distinction of opening up the first soccer-specific stadium in the USA, in 1999. The first trophy in the Crew team stats was the 2002 U.S. Open Cup, in which they won 1-0 over the L.A. Galaxy. As a result, they played in the 2003 CONCACAF Champions Cup for the first time. Despite Brian McBride leaving the club to play for Fulham, Columbus won the 2004 Supporters’ Shield. Despite having the best record in the league, they lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Columbus Crew Team Records
The best season in team history was in 2008 when Columbus won the MLS Cup and the Supporters’ Shield. In fact, they won back-to-back Supporters’ Shields but were bounced out in the 2009 first round. During this time Chad Marshall also won back-to-back MLS Defender of the Year awards.
Columbus made the quarterfinals in both the 2010 and 2011 CONCACAF Champions Leagues. In 2015, they reached their second MLS Cup final in team history but lost 2-1 at home to Portland Timbers. Five years later, Columbus Crew returned to the big stage. They trounced Seattle 3-0 to win a second MLS Cup in team history.
In 2021, the Crew defeated Liga MX champion Cruz Azul in the Campeones Cup. Columbus also made the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League. However, they missed out on the playoffs.
Midway through the 2022 season, Columbus was in a playoff position but towards the middle of the pack in the East. The MLS odds priced them as dark horses to win the title, at +2500. Betting advice has often noted that they possess one of the best defense/goalkeeper combinations in the league. Not too many of their matches have been high scoring.
