Los Angeles FC Stats & History
With MLS rapidly expanding in the mid-2010s, the league awarded Los Angeles another franchise. This was announced just days after former LA club Chivas USA had folded. In 2015, the club announced that Los Angeles FC would be the expansion team’s name.
Their inaugural season was in 2018 and they signed Mexican international forward Carlos Vela from the get-go. LAFC’s first season was a success, as they picked up 57 points and finished third in the Western Conference. It was the best first season any MLS expansion team has ever had.
In the first round of the 2018 playoffs, LAFC fell 3-2 to Real Salt Lake. The best season in the LAFC team stats, so far, was the 2019 season. They finished with the league’s best record, taking home the Supporters’ Shield. They also made their first Conference Final appearance but fell 3-1 to eventual champions Seattle Sounders.
There are two MLS Golden Boot winners in the Los Angeles FC team stats. Carlos Vela set a single-season MLS record with 34 goals in 2019 and also won the MLS MVP award. Meanwhile, Diego Rossi scored 14 times in 2020.

One last Mexican club, Tigres UANL, stood in LAFC’s way in the final. Despite Rossi putting LAFC 1-0 up in the second half, Tigres responded with two late goals to complete a comeback win.
LA missed the playoffs for the first time in 2021 but have played well in 2022 so far. Plus, they’ve added big name signings Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini to the team. Bale, a five-time UEFA Champions League winner with Real Madrid, scored in his second LAFC appearance.
