Nashville SC Stats & History
MLS awarded Nashville an expansion team in late 2017 to begin to play in 2020. Nashville SC played in the USL, the second division of American soccer, in 2018 and 2019. In their first season, they made a run to the round of 16 of the U.S. Open Cup. In the fourth round, Nashville impressively defeated MLS side Colorado Rapids 2-0.
In the 2019 season, Nashville finished third in the USL Championship as Daniel Rios scored 21 goals in all competitions. Nashville’s home ground in their first two MLS seasons was Nissan Stadium, where the Tennessee Titans also play. They drew over 59,000 fans for their home opener in 2020 but the season was postponed soon after.
Nashville didn’t enter the standalone “MLS is Back” tournament but they exceeded expectations when the season resumed. The Gold and Blue conceded fewer than a goal per game and finished in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. So, they registered their first-ever MLS playoff berth in the Nashville SC team stats.

Rios, a holdover from the USL days, scored the winning goal vs. Toronto in Nashville’s first-round playoff match. They took Columbus Crew to extra time in the Conference Semifinals but fell 2-0. After a solid first season in MLS, Nashville improved further in 2021.
Center back Walker Zimmerman registered his second consecutive MLS Defender of the Year in the Nashville Soccer Club team stats. He and Hany Mukhtar, who scored 16 MLS goals, led Nashville to third place in the Eastern Conference standings. Once again conceding fewer than a goal per game, Nashville had the league’s second-best goal difference.
Mukhtar scored twice in Nashville’s 3-1 first-round playoff win vs. Orlando City to advance to the Conference Semis. Once again, Nashville SC went into extra time but failed to convert a single penalty in a shootout loss vs. Philadelphia.
With the introduction of Charlotte FC to MLS, Nashville switched over to the Western Conference ahead of the 2022 season. They also opened their soccer-specific 30,000-seat stadium Geodis Park in 2022.
Midway through the 2022 season, Nashville SC was in a good position to make a third consecutive playoff berth. The MLS odds priced them at +2000 to win their first league title as of late July. Betting advice has noted Nashville’s inconsistency this season. As of July 25, they had won just three of their nine home MLS matches.
