Freshmart vs Menayothin Preview: The Biggest Fight in Division History
Freshmart Should be Favored in This Iconic Bout

It’s the biggest boxing match most fans have not even heard of. Knockout CP Freshmart will defend his WBA (Super) Mini-Flyweight strap against former WBC Mini-Flyweight champion, Wanheng Menayothin. Freshmart vs Menayothin is a fight that should have happened years ago when the latter was still in his prime. But like Mayweather vs Pacquiao, it’s better late than never.

Freshmart Will Close Book On This Long-Anticipated “Superfight”
Freshmart is the most dominant champion in boxing. The Thai is not only unbeaten but has held on to this WBA belt since winning it back in 2016. After he turned back challenger after challenger, talks grew of him fighting his compatriot, Wanheng Menayothin, however, thanks to sharing the same promoter, it never came to fruition. Menayothin, on his end, dominated until he ran into the “other” Freshmart.
Now, several years after Menayothin is clearly past his prime, Freshmart gets to tie this loose end. Bet on a boxing fighter and their lines should favor the champ, Freshmart, by a sizable margin. While Menayothin still has the skills, he may not be as physically capable as Freshmart.
Aptly called “Knockout”, Freshmart has nine KO wins on his resume. He’d have more had he kept the pedal to the metal, although he did finish his last two opponents. They were overmatched and Freshmart had no issues putting them away. But the all-around boxer could cruise against Menayothin given the circumstances.
Freshmart vs Menayothin should be a bigger fight. We have the two greatest minimumweight boxers sharing the ring. Had this been broadcasted over a larger international provider, it would have been a chance for Freshmart to make a statement. Instead, the 10-time defending champ may just elect to do what he usually does: build a sizable lead on the scorecards then cruise to a decision.
Aging Menayothin Still Has Much to Offer
Like Donnie Nietes who lost just last week, Menayothin is an aging great who is looking for one last shot at glory. The 36-year-old has one of the savviest boxing minds and he will enter the ring with size and reach advantages over Freshmart. But his speed isn’t quite there yet and in the 105 lb. division that’s not ideal.
Menayothin is one of the few boxers who have compiled 50 wins in their career; heck, he went 54-0 before running into Petchmanee CP Freshmart, the only boxer who’s beaten him. When all is said and done, there is a solid case to put Menayothin as the greatest minimumweight of all time. As it stands, he is fading and matched up against the current best boxer.
It’s hard to count Menayothin out entirely. Like Freshmart, he has no weakness. He does a lot of things well and he has a wealth of experience against the best in his division. For a 105er, he also packs plenty of power as he most recently showed against Jinnawat Rienpit.
Menayothin is likely out of his league here as the Freshmart vs Menayothin odds would suggest. But when you bet on boxing, the underdog can come through once in a while. This may not be the case as it is harder to pull off upsets in these lighter-weight divisions. But Menayothin can, at least, take the fight to Freshmart and give the fans something to cheer for. This could still be a “super fight” that lives up to its reputation, unlike Mayweather-Pacquiao.
