Understanding the Bundesliga Schedule
The Bundesliga, featuring teams like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, is the top soccer league in Germany. Unlike the other top five leagues, the Bundesliga features just 18 teams instead of 20, so teams play a 34-game schedule during a season that typically runs from August to May. If you want to bet on the Bundesliga, note that teams most often play on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays; also, keep up with the Bundesliga standings to perfect your wagering action.
Bundesliga teams play each other twice in a double round-robin format. Point spreads for Bundesliga matches are often released a week or so beforehand. There are a few one-week breaks throughout the season for national team matches and a two to three-week winter break from mid December to early January.
Unlike American sports, the Bundesliga has no playoffs or championship games. That means the team at the top of the table after 34 games is crowned champion. Playoffs and championship games are instead reserved for the German Cup -called the DFB-Pokal- and the European leagues.
Based on separate UEFA and DFB-Pokal schedules, matches can and will be rescheduled from their original times. UEFA competitions will take precedence, so a Thursday Europa League match can often cause a Bundesliga match to be rescheduled for a Sunday.
Rotating the squad throughout the season is crucial, as teams juggle three competitions at the same time, often with three games per week. Bundesliga odds reflect a number of factors, namely recent results, head-to-head, personnel absences, location of the match and rest.
