Bundesliga Matchday 28 Odds: Bottom Two Clubs Fight For Life

Title Hangs in the Balance

Bottom Two Clubs Fight for Their Lives

The last seven matches of the Bundesliga season are must-watches for various reasons. At the top of the table, Bayern Munich lead Borussia Dortmund by just two points. Midweek, Manchester City dismantled Bayern 3-0 in the Champions League and the Bavarians will look to bounce back vs. Hoffenheim on Saturday. Meanwhile, Dortmund head on the road to Stuttgart, who occupy the relegation playoff spot. Speaking of relegation, Schalke and Hertha are the bottom two clubs in the table and they’ll contest a massive match for both clubs this weekend. Let’s take a look at some of the most important Bundesliga Matchday 28 odds from this upcoming weekend.

Games of the Week

S04 Schalke 04 vs Hertha BSC

Date, time:

Schalke and Hertha are in 18th and 17th place in the Bundesliga standings, respectively. The bottom two teams both desperately need a win, as Schalke are two points outside of the relegation playoff spot and Hertha are just one point behind Stuttgart.

Schalke enter this match as by far the lowest-scoring team in the league. They’ve scored just 21 times in 27 matches and sport a -29 goal difference. They’ve failed to score in their last two games, both losses, but are favored in this match. In this pick’em, Schalke come in at -145 odds to cover and Hertha sit at +125.

Both teams have just two wins since the beginning of 2023 and Schalke have the worst home record in the league, at 3-4-7. At the same time, Hertha have been the worst road team in the league, with a 1-2-10 record outside of Berlin. Schalke’s moneyline is currently priced at +135 odds, while Hertha come in at +210.

Hertha have won the last three meetings between the two clubs, though. That includes a 2-1 win at the Olympiastadion back in October. The odds also list a draw at a +235 price.

Marius Butler has scored one third of Schalke’s goals this season and has scored four of Schalke’s last seven goals. Meanwhile, Dodi Lukebakio has been the main man for Hertha this season, with 10 goals. He’s one of only eight players who have reached double-digit Bundesliga goals so far this season.

Lukebakio could benefit if Schalke’s injured defenders Moritz Jenz and Jere Uronen can’t suit up. In a match between two teams who often struggle to score, under 2.5 goals show -130 odds.

VFB VfB Stuttgart vs Borussia Dortmund BVB

Date, time:

Borussia Dortmund bounced back from their loss Der Klassiker vs. Bayern Munich to defeat third-placed Union Berlin last weekend. Now, they’ll head on the road to Stuttgart, who are hoping to avoid relegation. Stuttgart escaped the bottom of the table by getting an important 3-2 win at VfL Bochum last Saturday. Now, they’re hanging on to the relegation playoff spot by the skin of their teeth. With both teams highly motivated, albeit for different reasons, this should be a competitive match.

Dortmund enter the match with just above an implied 50 percent chance to win the match. As 0.5-goal favorites, Dortmund show both -105 ATS and moneyline Bundesliga Matchday 28 odds. Notably, Dortmund have scored at least twice in each of their last five Bundesliga matches.

Donyell Malen, whose Dortmund career certainly didn’t get off to the best start, has been on the scoresheet in Dortmund’s last three. Just as Dortmund are scoring a lot, they’ve also conceded in their last five games. Yet, under three goals show -130 odds for Saturday’s match at Stuttgart.

Stuttgart have managed to avoid defeat in seven of their 13 home matches this season. So, it’s not too big of a surprise they’re -115 favorites to cover here. Dortmund have won the last four meetings, though, and the home side come in at +250 odds to break the streak. Edin Terzic and Dortmund are certainly missing injured defender Nico Schlotterbeck, who isn’t expected to suit up for this match.

Marius Wolf also missed out vs. Union Berlin due to illness but is expected to return. Stuttgart’s squad is at full strength heading into Saturday and they’ll be expecting to steal points off of title contenders Dortmund.

FCB Bayern Munich vs Hoffenheim TSG

Date, time:

Manchester City punished Bayern Munich’s mistakes on Tuesday in a way that few Bundesliga teams can. Dayot Upamecano had an incredibly torrid time for Bayern in the 3-0 loss and don’t be surprised if his confidence is affected going forward. Thomas Tuchel could potentially decide to shake up his backline and bring in Daley Blind to play center back as a result.

The loss was a highly disappointing one for the Bavarians who will need to overturn a three-goal deficit in Munich next week. Bayern are also out of the DFB Pokal and may be completely focused on their Bundesliga title challenge come next Wednesday.

In the meantime, they certainly need to defeat Hoffenheim on Sunday. Over the last three matches, Hoffenheim have masterfully escaped the relegation zone. With consecutive wins over Hertha, Schalke and Werder Bremen, Hoffenheim will be thinking about getting their first win over Bayern since 2020. With relatively favorable games remaining on their German Bundesliga schedule, Bayern are also favorites here. The Bavarians come in as two-goal favorites at -130 odds to cover.

Bayern also sit at -500 odds to win their 18th match of the season but failed to score on Tuesday for the first time since September. Meanwhile, Hoffenheim display +110 ATS and +1000 moneyline odds. The visitors have averaged 1.6 goals per game over their last five and under four goals come in at -135 odds for the match. Only one of the last thirteen matches between these two sides has finished in a draw and a tie sits at +700 odds. Hoffenheim will be missing substitute forward Munas Dabbur due to suspension and Kevin Vogt, Robert Skov, Grischa Promel and Thomas Delaney are day-to-day.

FCU Union Berlin vs VfL Bochum BOC

Date, time:

Union Berlin’s shock title chances took a big hit when they lost 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund last Saturday. They’re now seven points off the pace and are only four points ahead of fifth place Freiburg. To make their first-ever Champions League appearance, Union will need to pick up as many points as possible between now and the end of the season. On Sunday, they’re favored vs. VfL Bochum, who have conceded the most goals in the league. Bochum have allowed 60 goals in just 27 matches but have won two of their last five.

Bochum come in as one-goal underdogs here and are just three points outside of the relegation zone. They’re +475 moneyline underdogs but do show -130 Bundesliga Matchday 28 odds odds to cover the spread. Meanwhile, Union Berlin are one of just two teams without a home loss in the Bundesliga this season.

Union sit at +110 odds to cover and are -165 favorites here. Although Bochum are big underdogs, they did win the reverse fixture by a 2-1 scoreline. Philipp Hofmann , who leads Bochum with eight goals this season, opened the scoring in the reverse fixture.

While Hofmann is available and found the net in the 3-2 loss to Stuttgart, midfielder Anthony Losilla is suspended. Even though Bochum’s defense has often been tragic this season, under 2.5 goals show -130 odds for the match. Union Berlin have only averaged 1.2 goals per game in their last five matches, in all competitions.

They’ve also failed to score in seven of their last 12 games. These teams haven’t drawn in three previous Bundesliga meetings, but one displays +290 odds here.
