Last NBA season Recap: 2021-2022

Following the completion of the regular season, four teams seeded No. 7-10 competed in the play-in tournament for the final two spots in each conference. The No. 7 seed Brooklyn Nets defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers for one of the two spots. The second spot was claimed by the Atlanta Hawks after defeating the No. 10 seed Charlotte Hornets prior to a victory over the Cavaliers. The top-seeded Miami Heat and the No. 2 Boston Celtics faced off for the Eastern Conference Finals, with Boston emerging victorious 4-3 in the best-of-seven series.

In the Western Conference, the New Orleans Pelicans defeated the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Clippers to capture the last spot and become the No. 8 seed. The No. 1 seed Phoenix Suns emerged victorious 4-2 in the series, but were eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks in the following round. However, Dallas would fall to the Golden State Warriors 4-1 in the Western Conference Finals.

The NBA Finals came down to the Celtics and the Warriors, despite neither team being its respective conference’s top seed entering the post season. The Celtics jumped out to a 2-1 series lead, but ultimately fell to the Warriors 4-2.

NBA Standings

As the season progresses, these become the NBA playoffs standings. Each team’s status for the postseason is marked by a letter to signify its position.

The NBA standings aren’t just a way to track each team’s win-loss record, but also to identify any trends. Teams may be β€œhot” and on a winning streak, or losing often. These also factor into how an NBA team is offered on the betting lines, including point spreads.Β Β

There’s an 82-game regular season, with the top eight teams from each conference qualifying for the playoffs. The 16 teams then play three, best-of-seven series within the conference to get to the NBA Finals.Β

With the 2020-2021 addition of the play-in tournament, just the top six teams from each conference automatically qualify for the playoffs. Seventh- and eighth-seeded teams now compete in the play-in tournament with the ninth- and 10th-seeded teams to determine the final two participants in each conference.

Prior to the start of the regular season, there’s preseason and even a summer league. These are exhibition games that usually feature rookies and prospects. Wagering is generally available on preseason games, so tune in to see the future stars of the league.Β

NBA (Non-Finals) Major Events of the SeasonΒ

Outside of the NBA Finals, it’s the All-Star Game that’s typically the league’s marquee event. It is played (at predetermined rotating arenas) in mid-February, and after around 50 regular-season games.Β

  • Date: February 19, 2023.
  • Stadium: Vivint Arena, Salt Lake City

The league has also ventured outside of North America, offering the Global Games as part of its pre- or regular-season schedule. Venues in Japan, France and Mexico, among other countries, have hosted these games.
