IndyCar Schedules

IndyCar racing is incredibly similar to F1 in style and the cars they drive. However, the IndyCar schedule starts a bit earlier, usually around the end of February and runs through early to mid-September. However, unlike F1, which typically runs about every week, IndyCar is much more spaced out.

Since they start so early in the year, races are typically held in warm-weather states. For example, the first race of the season was the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in St. Petersburg Florida, followed by races in Texas and Long Beach.

Understanding the IndyCar Schedule

Main Events for this season

The biggest event on the IndyCar schedule by far is the Indy 500. Even people who don’t watch another IndyCar race all year have a great chance at at least tuning in for a brief period, as the Indy 500 is often synonymous with Memorial Day in the United States at the end of May. In 2022, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway held the 106th Indy 500.

Another big race on the schedule is the XPEL 375 at Texas Motor Speedway, though the race has had many different names and sponsors over the years. It’s an oval circuit, which brings high speeds and close finishes. Texas Motor Speedway has some of the closest finishes in the history of the IndyCar Series.

The Grand Prix of Long Beach is a much-anticipated race on the schedule as well. The city circuit is the longest-running course of the same style. The course is just short of two miles and consists of 11 turns and draws some of the largest crowds on the schedule.

Tips before betting on IndyCar

  1. Weather is crucial when looking to bet on the IndyCar. While they won’t run in rain, hotter and more humid temperatures can impact the cars, the same as cooler temperatures can.
  2. Depending on the location, some of the above factors will come in. For example, teams and drivers will have the humidity be more of a factor in St. Petersburg than in Long Beach, which can affect the racing surface and tire wear.
  3. When looking at the IndyCar odds, it’s all about the value. It may not make sense to just take the favorite. Say Scott Dixon was the favorite out of the entire field at +700 odds. While he may be the favorite in that situation, the implied probability of winning at +700 odds is still only 12.5%.
