Juventus Lose but Advance to Coppa Italia Final

Juventus went into Tuesday’s Coppa Italia Semifinal second leg with a 2-0 lead over Lazio. However, two Taty Castellanos goals put Lazio right back in the tie in the 48th minute. Juventus certainly weren’t at their best on Tuesday and it took a couple of Massimiliano Allegri substitutions to give them a spark. Tim Weah hit a hopeful ball into the box, which Arkadiusz Milik got on the end of with his first touch of the game.

So, Juventus are on to the Coppa Italia final for the fourth time in five seasons. They’ll take on Atalanta on May 15th with the opportunity to win their only trophy of the season. The Bianconeri still haven’t clinched a top-four spot in Serie A, either. Juventus are currently in third place in the Serie A standings, six points ahead of fifth-placed AS Roma. With just seven points from their last seven Serie A matches, Juventus have run out of steam toward the end of the season.

They haven’t been hit particularly hard by injuries recently. Only reserve forward Moise Kean is out at the moment. This is likely to be Allegri’s last season as Juve coach, and he has been criticized for being tactically inflexible. Juventus don’t play a particularly attractive brand of football and six teams have scored more goals than them this season. Without Dusan Vlahovic’s 16 goals, Juve may have been in some trouble this season.

AC Milan Short on Defenders

AC Milan took their frustration out towards the end of Monday’s 2-1 defeat to Scudetto winners Inter Milan. Milan left back Theo Hernandez got involved in a tussle with Inter fullback Denzel Dumfries and both players were promptly red carded. On a late corner, Milan right back Davide Calabria struck Davide Frattesi in the face and also picked up a red card. With Fikayo Tomori also suspended for yellow card accumulation, three Milan defenders are out for Saturday’s match.

Plus, a further two Rossoneri defenders are out injured. Simon Kjaer and Pierre Kalulu are set to miss out here. In the last week alone, Milan have lost to Roma in the Europa League Quarter-Final and fallen to Inter in the Derby della Madonnina. Reports from Italy are stating that Milan are set to part ways with 2021-22 Scudetto-winning coach Stefano Pioli at the end of the season.

Despite some high profile losses recently, Milan are still in second place and will be playing in the Champions League next season barring complete disaster. Olivier Giroud ranks joint-third in the Serie A stats, with 13 goals, but the Frenchman has only scored once in his last nine appearances. Rafael Leao has been Milan’s most dangerous player over the last few weeks, and he and Giroud lead the league with eight assists apiece.

Juventus vs AC Milan Match Analysis & Odds

From a Juventus perspective, this is an excellent time to be playing AC Milan. Three of Milan’s four defensive starters from Monday’s loss are out, and the squad morale seems to be lost. With Milan’s makeshift backline, Juventus are -105 favorites for this one.

The Juventus vs. AC Milan odds also list visitors Milan as +290 underdogs and a draw at +250. With so much rotation, the Rossoneri defenders who step in have a rare opportunity. Perhaps, they can vouch for more playing time from here on out. Milan +0.5 comes in at -115 odds, and they’ve lost just one of their last eight Serie A matches.

While under 2.5 goals are priced at -120 odds for Saturday’s match, AC Milan is on a 22-game Serie A scoring streak. Juventus have kept three shutouts in their last five league games, though.
