Vietnam may not have a Women’s professional league, but they did manage to qualify for their first-ever World Cup. They did it by qualifying for the knockout stage at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup for the first time. Vietnam lost to China in the quarterfinals, which put them in the qualifying playoff. They defeated Thailand 2-0 and Chinese Taipei 2-1 there.
On their first Women’s World Cup schedule, Vietnam take on the USA, Portugal and the Netherlands. It’s just about as difficult of a group as Vietnam could get. Plus, they’ve lost their last three matches heading into the Women’s World Cup.
