2022 US Open Golf Odds: Hot Golfers Firm in US Open Betting Markets
Scheffler, Thomas, Top List of Favorites, Tiger Fan Favorite as Always
The Country Club in Brookline hosts the world’s best golfers on June 16th as the US Open golf tournament celebrates its 122nd edition. Betting markets have already seen serious money moves with 2022 US Open Golf odds, particularly for golf players coming off strong performances in the majors so far this season.
The golf odds team at Point Spreads looks at where the money is going and which golfers are trending in the right direction.
Scheffler Gets the Shuffle Up
It should surprise no one to see American-sensation Scottie Scheffler fly up the odds board. In only his third year, his rise to stardom comes in short order. Already in this 2021-22 season, Scheffler clinched a record-setting four victories faster than anyone else in their career, capped off by a green jacket at the Masters.
These accomplishments did not go unnoticed by betting markets. In January, when odds first posted for the US Open, bookmakers priced Scheffler outside of the top ten at 40/1. But after his historic two-month tear on the tour, he quickly firmed up as one of the top US Open golf favorites at 12/1. Markets have since adjusted that number to 14/1 following his missed cut at the PGA Championship.
Woods Goes Unwanted
Hype always follows Tiger Woods, attracting sentimental money no matter where he plays. Oddsmakers offered an 80/1 price for Woods to win the US Open back in January. After a less-than-spectacular Masters’ weekend though, betting markets turned sour on the legend.
Unwanted by early-bird bettors, his 2022 US Open golf odds ballooned up to 150/1 amid concerns of his entry. After suffering leg soreness at Southern Hills, he abandoned the PGA Championship following the third round.
He now carries odds of up to 100/1 but as the event approaches and Woods commits to playing, expect that number to drop by as much as half.
Thomas Closing in on Favoritism
PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas has steadily climbed the 2022 US Open Golf odds board.
The two-time major winner had been threatening to win a big tournament for months leading up to the 2022 PGA Championship. Following that breakthrough win, the Louisville, KY native dropped from 18/1 to a 14/1 favorite, on the same line as Jon Rahm and Scheffler.
With America hoisting, the trophy after six of the last seven US Open tournaments, bettors backing the home favorite have fared well in recent memory. Boasting the largest allowable field in golf, a multitude of wagering options, and Tiger Woods. The 2022 US Open could draw a record handle for sports books.
