Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid Head-to-Head

When these teams last met, in September 2023, the Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid lines priced hosts Real Madrid as -150 favorites. However, Real Madrid fell behind in the fifth minute as Ander Barrenetxea scored for the Txuri-Urdin. Fede Valverde and Joselu powered a second half Real Madrid comeback, as they won 2-1.

Last season, Real Sociedad went unbeaten vs. Real Madrid and didn’t concede a goal to Los Blancos. Sociedad defeated Real Madrid 2-0 at the Reale Arena last May. Three of the last seven matchups have finished in draws. However, the recent La Liga scores have favored Real Madrid. Sociedad have only won one of the last nine head-to-head meetings in the league.

Sociedad Draw Two in a Row

Real Sociedad took on Getafe last Sunday and went up just 13 minutes in. Sheraldo Becker used his blistering pace on the right wing and sent in a cross for Ander Barrenetxea, who made no mistake of it. Following an Alex Remiro double save 15 minutes later, a persistent Getafe sent in another cross, and Oscar Rodriguez headed home. Both sides settled for a 1-1 draw, which was La Real’s second straight in the league.

At the moment, Real Sociedad are in sixth place in the La Liga table, which will almost certainly be good enough for a Europa League spot. However, the Txuri-Urdin are just three points ahead of seventh-placed Real Betis at the moment. Since losing 2-1 to PSG in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16, Real Sociedad are unbeaten in their last five La Liga matches. Still, this is their first match vs. a top four team since February.

This season, Real Sociedad are 0-2-3 vs. current top four sides. They’ve also won just six of their 15 matches at the Reale Arena in the league, with a 6-6-3 record. Barrenetxea’s goal last Sunday was his first of 2024 but he still ranks second on the team, with seven. No Sociedad player has scored 10 or more La Liga goals this season, but Mikel Oyarzabal is on nine. Defenders Hamari Traore, Aihen Muñoz and Kieran Tierney are out injured here. Meanwhile, Carlos Fernandez is listed as doubtful.

Real Madrid Win Controversial Clasico

Real Madrid won El Clasico over Barcelona 3-2 under controversial and dramatic circumstances. With the score tied at 1-1 Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal flicked on a corner that appeared to cross the goal line before Andriy Lunin saved it. Without goal-line technology, La Liga VAR officials were unable to confirm. Barcelona would go up 2-1 but a Lucas Vazquez goal and last minute assist to Jude Bellingham handed Real Madrid a 3-2 victory.

Now, Real Madrid are 11 points ahead of second-placed Barcelona with just six games to play. Lunin has also been one of the most underappreciated La Liga players this season. Although he misjudged the cross on Barcelona’s first goal, the Ukrainian shot stopper, filling in for the injured Thibaut Courtois, has the best save percentage in the league.

Vazquez hasn’t played much this season but he had a hand in all three goals last weekend. He won the penalty that Vini Jr. converted for Real’s first goal. With the Champions League in mind, it’ll be interesting to see if Carlo Ancelotti names a weaker side than normal here. Apparently, Rodrygo has the flu, Bellingham has gastroenteritis and Ferland Mendy is out with leg soreness, so Ancelotti will have to make at least a few changes.

Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid Analysis

With Real Madrid’s focus on the UCL, the Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid lines list hosts Sociedad as favorites. Real Sociedad show +165 odds to win here, while Real Madrid are slight +170 underdogs. Even if Rodrygo and Bellingham don’t suit up, Ancelotti does have a deep roster to call upon.

Real Madrid will always have a chance to win and they’ll look to keep building momentum ahead of the Champions League Semifinal first leg. Sociedad pk sits at -112, while bettors can back Real Madrid pk at -108 odds. A draw would keep Sociedad in sixth place and wouldn’t do much harm to Real Madrid. One displays +235 odds for this one.

Meanwhile, over 2, 2.5 goals are priced at -120 odds. However, none of the last three meetings at the Reale Arena have finished with more than two goals. With some difficult matches remaining, this is a great opportunity for Sociedad to take advantage of a rotated Real Madrid roster.
