Game Seven: Vegas Golden Knights vs Dallas Stars Prediction

Defending Champs Shutout the Dallas Stars 2-0 in Game Six to Set Up Series finale

The Vegas Golden Knights (3-3) head back to the Lone Star State for one final stance in what could be the toughest opponent they’ll face all postseason. Although it’s a first-round match-up, the speed and execution by both clubs are a reminder to the rest of the league that the postseason is a different level.

Oddsmakers have made the Dallas Stars a -148 favorite with a total of 5.5 (under -120). We suspect there will be equal action on the send-out number so don’t expect much difference when betting starts to ramp up.

The puck is scheduled to drop on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT and can be seen on SCRIPPS, TBS, truTV, MAX, and Bally Sports Southwest. Let’s get right into our Golden Knights vs Stars prediction preview.

An Old Adage Comes Through Again

Usually, an old saying or handicapping techniques are passed down from capper to capper. This one started with us and it held again in game two. We believe that when key players return to the line-up it takes a game or two for said player to return to the level that we’re used to.

In walks Golden Knights goaltender Adin Hill (19-12-12 / 1-1 postseason) after Logan Thompson started the first four games in net, The Golden Knights get accused of a lot of things but what they never get credit for is the masterful job they do of keeping players fresh for the postseason.

Hill was a key player in last year’s Stanley Cup run but struggled this season while battling injuries. Thompson started the postseason but Bruce Cassidy knew when it was time for Hill to come back into the line-up along with a massive change to the line-up and defensive pairings.

Hill lost his first game after a layoff that was just shy of two weeks, allowing three goals on 25 shots. After a game under his belt, Hill turned aside 23 Stars shots last night in back of a Knights defense that played their best game of the series. We’ll see if the champs have one more knockout in them Sunday.

DeBoer Puts Streak On The Line

Vegas fans wish Pete DeBoer’s record in games five and six were a little better but the 16-year coaching veteran is a perfect 7-0 in game seven. There are so many synergies in play as we head to the final game of the series. DeBoer coached the Golden Knights from 2019-2022, compiling a 98-50-2 record, including two conference final appearances.

One of those losses was to the Dallas Stars in five games in the bubble in 2020. The following season DeBoer was fired two seasons later after failing to make the playoffs in 2022. There’s a lot to unpack there but you can bet on one thing, the former VGK coach would like nothing more than to knock out his former employer while running his game-seven record to 8-0.

When we dig through game six it is hard not to think back to three point-blank chances Dallas had in the second period that could have ended the series including a breakaway by Miro Heiskanen, but instead, Hill stood tall holding the Stars scoreless.

When handicapping game seven those moments stick with you more than the final score.

Golden Knights Going Home

It’s a shame there has to be a loser in this series but if we talk about depth constantly, then we must go with the Dallas Stars who have the clear advantage with legit firepower on all three lines.

We can’t lose sight of the fact that the Stars were among the NHL leaders in goal scored with 3.59 per game (3rd) but if Dallas gets a lead this one may get away from Vegas as they become more desperate with every minute they’re behind.

In addition, much has been made about the return of Adin Hill, but Jake Oettinger has made his triumphant return to being one of the top goaltenders in the league after a regular season that had its valleys. The Stars odds to win the Stanley Cup are +900 (6th choice) while the Knights are +2000 (9th choice).

We’re not excited about laying over -140, but if we must, the Stars are our hockey pick tonight. That does it for our Golden Knights vs Stars prediction preview, we wish you all the best with your NHL picks and parlays this weekend.
