Horse racing betting odds are available for a plethora of quality races on Saturday, including the Belmont Derby Invitational.

The $1 million feature is the biggest race this week, which also includes the Indiana Derby and Delaware Handicap.

European Invasion in Belmont Derby

Stone Age was the early horse racing favorite for trainer Aidan O’Brien, who won this race last year.

The well-bred son of Galileo placed sixth in the Epsom Derby, where it’s possible that the distance caught him off guard. He struggled in the run to the line but the Epsom Derby is always a good form guide in America.

“We assumed the mile and a half wouldn’t be an issue; perhaps he didn’t require the mile and a half as much as we believed,” O’Brien said.

He could compete with fellow European Nations Pride, who runs under the Godolphin banner, and given his performance in the Derby Trial Stakes, he’s one to watch.

Nations Pride is another runner looking to bounce back from a poor Epsom Derby performance but he’s a classy type on his day and running at Belmont should suit him nicely.

Tiz the Bomb to Explode

We have always loved backing Tiz the Bomb and we look out whenever he’s featured on the horse racing schedule.

Tiz the Bomb hasn’t competed since placing ninth in the Kentucky Derby, but he might start this campaign off strongly in the Belmont Derby Invitational.

Prior to the Derby, the Ken McPeek-trained colt had displayed tremendous form, including defeating Kentucky Derby victor Rich Strike in the Jeff Ruby Steaks. That is an excellent form race and it bodes well for his chances on the grass.

It’s a wonderful Belmont Derby form guide, and returning to the grass track will suit him just fine.

“We gave him a Kentucky Derby chance,” McPeek said. “He ran respectable, but he’s certainly not as good on the dirt as he is on the grass. “I think he’s definitely a better grass horse than a dirt horse. He’s really intelligent. I think the sire line is a little more grass, but he handles about everything.”

The son of Connect is another Kenneth McPeek-trained runner, who is also entered the Iowa Derby. He has every chance of winning three Derby races and McPeek understands how unusual his plans are with the Indiana Derby favorite.

“I know it’s unconventional. I’m a little nervous about it. But we jogged him up and back Sunday morning after the race,” McPeek said. “He cleaned up (eating) by 8 o’clock the night after he ran. He cleaned up the next morning. He’s never been better. We buy horses to race them. It could be exciting.”
