Aces vs Dream Betting Preview: Las Vegas Truly Looks “Super”

At 4-0, Las Vegas is WNBA's last remaining unbeaten team

The Atlanta Dream’s five-game homestand continues Friday with a visit from the undefeated Las Vegas Aces. The Aces are 4-0 and have yet to be challenged this season as they chase a second straight WNBA title.

Las Vegas is listed as an 11-point favorite (-110) and -750 on the moneyline, with Atlanta priced at +550. The projected total is 171.

Let’s take a closer look at the matchup in our Aces vs. Dream betting preview.

Coming up Aces for Las Vegas

Las Vegas, the WNBA title favorite at +115, looks as strong as advertised. The Aces are the league’s only remaining unbeaten team at 4-0 and have beaten opponents by a whopping 24.7 points. They’re the runaway leader in scoring at 96.5 points per game, 6.0 points better than the next-best team.

The defending WNBA champions got stronger during the offseason, adding seven-time All-Star and two-time Most Valuable Player Candace Parker via free agency. Though the 37-year-old Parker has gotten off to a quiet start with her new team, she has a ridiculous supporting cast.

Las Vegas’ four other starters — reigning MVP A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young, Kelsey Plum and Chelsea Gray — have accounted for 74.4% of the team’s scoring. Wilson (+400) and Plum (+800) currently rank second and fourth, respectively, on the MVP oddsboard, which is headlined by New York forward Breanna Stewart at +200.

Young, Las Vegas’ leading scorer at 23 points per game, was named the league’s Most Improved Player in 2022. The 2019 No. 1 overall pick out of Notre Dame averaged 15.9 points on 43.1% shooting from 3, 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals. All were career highs.

Atlanta Flashing Potential

At 2-2, Atlanta isn’t a finished product- far from it. The Dream are simply a middle-of-the-pack team, as far as the WNBA standings are concerned. That said, the potential is obvious.

Reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, Rhyne Howard is establishing herself as a No. 1 scorer. The 2021 first-overall pick out of Kentucky averages 17.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.3 steals. With Allisha Gray and Cheyenne Parker scoring in double figures, Howard has a decent amount of help, too.

The Dream added more youth this offseason, selecting Stanford guard Haley Jones (sixth overall) and South Carolina forward Laeticia Amihere (eighth overall) in the first round of April’s draft. Neither has contributed much to this point, but that should change as each gets more comfortable.

With multiple scoring options, Atlanta has fared well offensively. The Dream are third in the league in scoring at 82.8 points per game, trailing only Las Vegas and Dallas. They’re ranked sixth defensively (79.3). Keep that in mind in our Aces vs Dream betting preview.

Handicapping The Game

It’s obvious why many quickly labeled Las Vegas a “Super Team” following the addition of Parker. The roster is loaded with talent, and as Parker continues to incorporate herself into the mix, the return on investment will only look stronger.

Atlanta — a +3500 title pick — has a few formidable scorers, but is it ready to step up and match what Las Vegas has to offer? Right now, the Aces are playing on another level.

Based on that, Las Vegas is a comfortable favorite in our Aces vs Dream betting preview.
