Anthony Edwards Stats: Minnesota Star Coming Up Big

Guard Helps Timberwolves to 2-0 Series Lead

Few people expected the Minnesota Timberwolves to go into Denver and take the first two games of their NBA playoff series. Anthony Edwards wasn’t of them and his play the past four games has Minnesota close to reaching the Western Conference Finals. The Anthony Edwards stats show he’s averaged 36.5 points over the last four games. She’s shot .522 or better in those four games and is averaging 6.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists in that span. The NBA schedule has Denver visiting Minnesota on Friday, and Edwards will need another big game.

Edwards has always been a solid playoff performer, but most of those series have ended with losses. In 17 career playoff games, he’s averaging 29.6 points, well above the 22.9 points her averages in regular season games. He also averages more rebounds and assists in the playoffs than in the regular season. Minnesota needs players to come up big in the postseason, and you can’t say they haven’t done so.

Edwards was one of the top recruits in the country coming out of high school. He turned down offers from Kentucky, Kansas and North Carolina to play at Georgia. He averaged 19.1 points and 5.2 rebounds as a freshman. After playing the one season with the Bulldogs he declared for the NBA Draft. The Timberwolves drafted him No. 1 overall and he made his NBA debut on Dec. 23, 2020.

NBA Career Has Been Solid

If Edwards felt any pressure over being the No. 1 pick in a draft it hasn’t shown. He’s had a pretty good career so far, and the Anthony Edwards stats show a player who is getting better. He’s been able to avoid the NBA injury report for the most part and played in 79 games in each of the last two seasons.

More important to the Timberwolves, Edwards has helped the team in the NBA standings. In his first year, the Timberwolves were 23-49. His second season saw Minnesota improve to 46-36, but the Timberwolves slipped a little last season with a 42-40 record. Things came together for Minnesota this year, with the Timberwolves going 56-26. You can’t point Minnesota’s improvement entirely due to Edwards, although he’s played a big part.

Edwards came in second in Rookie of the Year voting in 2020-21, when he averaged 19.3 points per game. That increased to 21.3 points in his second year. The last two seasons Edwards has been named to the NBA All-Star team and averaged 24.6 points last season and 25.9 points per game this year. Edwards has also seen his assist total climb each season.

For his career, the Anthony Edwards stats show he’s averaged 22.9 points per game and is shooting .446 from the field. He can make the 3-pointer and is hitting 35.3% of his long-range shots. His foul shooting has always been good, but he had his best year this season, hitting 83.6% from the line.

Edwards has a career average of 5.2 rebounds per game and 4.1 assists per game. He makes a few turnovers and is averaging 2.8 per game to go along with 1.4 steals. He’s a solid all-around player and significant part of Minnesota’s recent success.
