Rams Struggling With Consistency

Since having seven straight games finishing under the total, Colorado State has seen its last six contests alternate between going over and under the total. If that trend continues, this game will finish over the total since the Mountain West semifinal finished nearly 20 points under the 154.5-point total.

Colorado State is 38th in the Pomeroy college basketball database in defensive efficiency as the Rams are holding teams to 43% shooting from the field and 33% on 3-pointers. Keep that in mind when looking at the Colorado State vs Virginia odds.

Colorado State is averaging 86.7 points in three games against teams from Power-5 conferences leading scorer Isaiah Stevens putting up 16.7 points and eight assists in those games. That is something to consider when making NCAAB picks and parlays.

Colorado has covered in just one of its last six games.

Cavaliers Look to Stop The Rams

Virginia is one of the teams to receive at-large bids into the March Madness bracket which created questions about whether the Cavaliers deserve to be in the NCAA tournament.

Virginia has won its opener in seven of its last nine national postseason tournaments with the Virginia Cavaliers going 1-5-1 against the spread in their last seven tourney openers.

Each of Virginia’s last three losses in postseason tournaments have come to teams from outside the Power-5 conferences with two of those games going under the total. That is something to consider when it comes to the Colorado State vs Virginia odds.

Virginia is 5-12 against the spread in its last 17 NCAA tournament games although the Cavaliers have covered in nine of those contests.

Virginia is 3-6 against the spread over the last nine games.

Colorado State vs Virginia Betting Preview

It is hard to know what to expect as Colorado State and Virginia square off for the first time.

When Virginia loses, there isn’t much suspense involved with nine of the 10 defeats coming by double digits while Colorado State has suffered just three losses by at least 10 points.

Both teams finished near the bottom of their respective leagues when it came to the over/under numbers with Virginia seeing just 15 of 33 landing over the total while Colorado State is last in the Mountain West with 13 of 32 games going under the total. The total is at 120.5 for this NCAAB matchup.

Thanks to so many games featuring low totals, four of Virginia’s last five games went over the total. However, three of the last four March Madness contests went under the total even though this will be the ninth time in the last 11 NCAA tournament games for Virginia to have a total under 130 points.

Both teams are in a pretty good position from an injury standpoint. Colorado State has been at full strength since Josiah Strong and Jalen Lake returned to the court after missing time in December while eight of Virginia’s top 10 scorers have appeared in at least 31 of 33 games.

The total has gone under in nine of Colorado State’s last 12 games.

The Rams have covered in just three of their last 13 games played in March.

It is a pretty young Virginia team with three freshmen, three sophomores, and two transfers among the top nine scorers and that inexperience has shown up at times.

However, Virginia’s defensive pressure can be difficult to prepare for when meeting up with the Cavaliers for the first time and Virginia should have a chip on its shoulder with all the talk about how the Cavaliers don’t belong in this tournament.

Even though Colorado State is 1-0 against the ACC this season and the Rams also own a win over a NCAA tournament-bound Creighton team, going with Virginia to win as the underdog could be the best way to proceed.
