Kings In a Free Fall

It seems like ages have passed since the Los Angeles Kings began the NHL season with a 16-4-3 record and that was the second-best points percentage among Western Conference teams. That is something to consider when looking at the Kings vs Predators odds.

Los Angeles won its first 11 road games and is 3-6-4 on the road since that sizzling start.

The Kings have won just two of their last 16 games as they have gone from challenging for the best record in the Western Conference to fighting for a playoff spot.

Since Dec. 28, none of the Kings have positive plus/minus ratings with Pierre-Luc Dubois at -12. There have been concerns about the future of Dubois in Los Angeles as his effort has been questioned.

Even Adrian Kempe and Kevin Fiala, the top two scorers for the Kings during that stretch, are a combined -10.

The total has gone under in six of the last eight games against Central Division teams.

Special Teams Letting the Predators Down

Since the start of January, Nashville is 23rd in power play success rate and also 23rd on the penalty kill.

That has played a role in the Predators having a -5 goal differential during that time.

No Nashville hockey player has more than two power-play goals over the last 13 games as the Predators have scored six times in its last 43 man-advantage opportunities. During that span, Nashville has allowed the opponent to score on the power play 10 times. Keep that in mind when looking at the Kings vs Predators odds.

The total went under in the last five games that Nashville played against Western Conference teams.

Last Meeting

Ryan O’Reilly had a goal and an assist as all the goals were scored in the second period in Nashville’s 2-1 road victory. It was the second straight game between the Predators and Kings to go under the total. That game marked the fourth time in the last six meetings to be won by the road NHL team.

Seven of the last 12 times that Nashville played host to the Kings, the game went over the total.

Kings vs Predators Betting Preview

Three of the last four times that Los Angeles played at Nashville, the game was decided by one goal for Nashville winning three of those contests.

Four of the last six games between Nashville and Los Angeles finished under the NHL odds total.

The total went under in seven of Nashville’s last eight games.

Los Angeles has won just one of its last nine road games and is just 4-6-2 as the underdog. Nashville is 11-9-1 as the favorite.

Just eight of the 24 road games played by the Kings went over the total and nine of the home games for the Kings landed over.

When looking at NHL picks and parlays, keep in mind that Nashville defenseman Roman Josi has points in eight of his last 10 games.

Los Angeles winger Quinton Byfield, who is tied for fourth on the team with 34 points, has missed the last two games due to illness and he is questionable for the game.

A month ago, it might have been the way to go to expect the Kings to even the season series but it is hard to have much confidence with the way the Kings are playing right now.

Four of Nashville’s last six games were decided by one goal and it is the same story for the Kings so going with the Predators at +1.5 in this game seems to be the best way to proceed.
