Stars Working Overtime

Dallas heads into the matchup with the Rangers coming off back-to-back overtime losses with the Stars falling at home in overtime to Edmonton and then began a four-game road trip with a shootout loss to the Boston Bruins.

Dallas outshot both Edmonton and Boston and in the loss to the Bruins, had the 46-30 advantage in shots on goal.

Dallas began the NHL season by going 13-3-4 in one-goal games. Since then Dallas is 3-2-4 in games being decided by one goal.

The Stars had a pair of one-goal leads against Boston and allowed a goal to David Pastrnak with 1:45 left in the third period to send a second straight game into overtime. Keep that in mind when it comes to the Stars vs Rangers betting odds.

The total has gone over in seven of the last 10 games for Dallas.

Rangers Are On a Roll

The Rangers have the longest active winning streak in the NHL as a shootout win over the rival New Jersey Devils in overtime in the Stadium Series at MetLife Stadium.

Despite some mediocre numbers on the power play and while killing penalties, no team has averaged more goals per game than a 4.43 by the New York Rangers since the streak began in late January. That could play a role in the Stars vs Rangers betting odds.

Nine different players have at least two goals during the winning streak with Chris Kreider’s six goals leading the way. Artemi Panarin has three goals and eight assists while defenseman Adam Fox has nine assists and a +9 defensive rating over the last seven games.

The total went over in four of the last six games that the Rangers played against Central Division teams.

Last Meeting

The Rangers had points in 11 straight games and took the early two-goal lead in the first meeting of the season against the Stars. However, Dallas scored five times in the third period aided by a pair of empty-net goals in a 6-3 win.

The game went over the 5.5-goal total on a goal by Tyler Seguin at 8:24 of the third period. It was the fifth time in the last seven meetings that a game between the Rangers and Stars game went over the total.

Stars vs Rangers Betting Preview

Recent trips by Dallas to Madison Square Garden haven’t been offensive showcases with four of the last five meetings going under the total.

The Rangers are 28-15-2 as a favorite this season while the Stars have a 1-4-2 record as the underdog.

The Rangers have covered in 11 of their 26 home games with 13 of those games landing over the NHL odds total.

The Rangers have won six of their last seven home games. The total has gone over in four of the last six road games for the Stars with the total set at 6.5 for this matchup.

Dallas has won five of its last eight games against Eastern Conference teams and 11 of the last 13 versus Metropolitan Division teams.

Keep an eye on the availability of Dallas forward Matt Duchene and first-pair defenseman Miro Heiskanen are both questionable as are defensemen Jani Hakanpaa and Nils Lundkvist. Keep that in mind when making NHL score predictions. Defenseman Ryan Lindgren is questionable for the Rangers while veteran forward Blake Wheeler is out for the season.

This should be a fun game as Dallas is the highest-scoring team in the NHL while the Rangers have won five home games in a row (counting the Stadium Series game). Go with the host Rangers to take care of business at home although the Stars could cover a +1.5-goal underdogs.
