2023 ATP Recap: Record-Setting Novak Djokovic Nearly Swept the Four Grand Slams

A Solid Year For the US-Born Players During the 2023 Men’s Tennis Season
What a year it was in the world of men’s tennis with future Hall of Famer Novak Djokovic adding to his record haul of Grand Slam singles titles and being involved in the tennis match of the year. He is a headliner when it comes to the 2023 ATP recap.
Former World No. 1 Rafael Nadal saw his 2023 season cut short as the Australian Open was the only Grand Slam event he took part in. Djokovic is sitting atop of the ATP rankings followed by Alcaraz, Medvedev, Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev. No. 10 Taylor Fritz is the top-ranked American.
The next Grand Slam is the Australian Open. Djokovic is priced at -110 in the Australian Open outrights followed by Alcaraz (+300), Sinner (+600) and Medvedev (+800).
When looking at the tennis futures odds, Djokovic is priced at +160 to win one Grand Slam singles title and +175 to capture a pair of Grand Slams.
Carlos Alcaraz, who spent some time at No. 1 in ATP rankings has +250 odds to win one of the Grand Slams in 2024 and +400 to take home two major championships. Betting on the tennis futures odds is one way to proceed when looking at how to bet tennis.
Here’s a look back at the 2023 men’s tennis season.
Australian Open
Nadal was the top seed and lost to American Mackenzie McDonald in the second round. Meanwhile, Djokovic lost just one set in the tournament.
Djokovic finished off his strong two weeks of tennis by topping Stefanos Tsitsipas in the men’s singles final in Melbourne.
When looking at the tennis odds, Djokovic was priced at +150 to win the tournament followed by Daniil Medvedev at +275 and Alcaraz at +325.
According to the tennis picks, Tsitsipas came in with +1200 odds to win the Australian Open at the start of the tournament.
When looking at the 2023 ATP recap, American Jenson Brooksby eliminated second seed Casper Ruud in four sets in the second round in one of the biggest upsets in the tournament.
French Open
A huge piece of tennis news happened before the start of the French Open with Djokovic and Alcaraz landing in the same half of the draw. That was one of the biggest stories when it came to the 2023 ATP recap.
The 14-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal announced that he would be unable to play in the tournament. Andy Murray, the 2016 finalist at Roland Garros, also pulled out.
Alcaraz was the pre-tournament favorite according to the French Open outrights with +120 odds to be the last man standings followed by Djokovic at +175.
Djokovic topped Alcaraz 3-6, 7-5 6-1 6-1 in the semifinal before beating Casper Rudd in the title match to win his 23rd career Grand Slam singles title.
Tomas Martin Etcheverry only unseeded player in the quarterfinals while one of the front-runners was sent packing early when No. 2 seed Medvedev lost in five sets to Thiago Seyboth Wild in the first round.
No Americans reached the quarterfinals.
Wimbledon
The tennis odds had Djokovic (-175) as the favorite in the Wimbledon outrights. Alcaraz comes in at +350 followed by Jannik Sinner at +1600.
It could be argued that the best match of the 2023 season came in the Wimbledon final when Alcaraz beat four-time defending champion Djokovic 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
Christopher Eubanks was the only American to advance to the quarterfinals before losing to Daniil Medvedev. Eubanks beat Cameron Norrie and Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the quarterfinals.

US Open
Coming off his Wimbledon title, Alcaraz (+120) was the front-runner going into the final Grand Slam tournament of the season. Djokovic wasn’t far behind at +150.
Medvedev, priced at +450 in the US Open outrights, eliminated Alcaraz 7-6 16-1 3-6 6-3 in the semifinals but had no answers for Djokovic in the singles final.
There were three Americans in the quarterfinals. Ben Shelton upset Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 to reach the semifinals while Taylor Fritz was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

ATP Finals
Djokovic headed into the ATP Finals with +125 odds to add to his championships. It was money well spent as Djokovic would win the title.
Alcaraz (+350 in the ATP Finals outrights) lost to Djokovic 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals. Jannik Sinner, the No. 4 pick at +650 when the tournament began, advanced to the finals. Djokovic took care of Sinner 6-3, 6-3 to wrap up a brilliant 2023 season.
There were no Americans among the eight players who qualified for the ATP finals.
A Tough Year for a Legend
Injuries limited Rafael Nadal to just two tournaments during the 2023 ATP season.
He lost to Cameron Norris and Alex de Minaur at the United Cup. He posted a four-set win over Jack Draper in the first round of the Australian Open before falling to Mackenzie McDonald. That was the last match for Nadal.
