Terra Wortmann Open Odds: Hurkacz’s Challenging Title Defense

Top-Seeded Medvedev Leads Four Top-10 Ranked Players in Terra Wortmann Open

Hurkacz Looks to Join Kafelnikov and Federer Back-to-Back Champions in Halle

It seems strange to have a field in the former Halle Open without mentioning 10-time champion Roger Federer. Federer is the last player to win back-to-back titles in this Wimbledon tune-up as he completed a 3-peat from 2013-15. The Terra Wortmann Open odds will look to top-seeded Daniil Medvedev to make a title run.

Defending Hubert Hurkacz will face quite the challenge if he is to make it back-to-back titles with 2022 finalist Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev, Jannik Sinner and two-time finalist Alexander Zverev among the top contenders.

Medvedev, currently priced third in the Wimbledon outrights (at +700), leads the tournament odds board at +350. He’s followed by Sinner (+500) and Zverev (+650). Nick Kyrgios (+1800) and Tsitsipas (+700) aren’t far behind.

No German player has won the singles title in Halle since Florian Mayer topped countryman Alexander Zverev in the 2016 championship match.

A highlight in the 30th anniversary of the Halle event will be “Roger Federer Day” on June 21 as the tournament honors the most successful player in the tournament’s history.

“I’m looking forward to returning to one of my absolute favorite tournaments on the ATP Tour,” Federer said in a statement. “It’s an honor to come and help the tournament celebrate this important anniversary in Halle.”

The tournament, which includes four players in the top 10 in the ATP rankings, begins on Monday with the champion being crowned on June 25.

Medvedev Looking to Rebound

Top-seeded Medvedev suffered a stunning first-round loss to No. 172 Thiago Seyboth Wild at the French Open. He followed that up by losing to Adrian Mannarino after taking the opening set in his first match at ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

Medvedev was coming off a championship run at the Italian Open so his recent poor form was a bit of a surprise. Now the Terra Wortmann Open odds view Medvedev as a front-runner to win it all.

Medvedev didn’t drop a set in his first four matches at the 2022 Halle before falling to Hurkacz in the title match.

Tsitsipas Eyeing Extended Run

Tsitsipas, the No. 5 ranked player, has had pretty short stays in Halle as he lost in the Round of 16 to No. 109 Denis Kudla in 2018 and after outlasted Benjamin Bonzi in his return to the event in 2022, he dropped a tough three-set match to No. 65 Nick Kyrgios. Keep an eye on the Terra Wortmann Open odds when is comes to the always dangerous Tsitsipas.

Beginning in Monte Carlo, Tsitsipas has made it to at least the quarterfinals in five consecutive tournaments before falling to veteran Richard Gasquet in the Round of 16 in Stuttgart.

Former Finalist Rublev Back for More

Andrey Rublev has had a bit of an all-or-nothing track record in Halle. Three times he has dropped his opening match beginning in qualifying in 2016. He also reached the quarterfinals in 2017 and got to the 2021 finals.

Since winning three-set matches against Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune to capture the Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo, Rublev has struggled to close out matches as he has dropped his last three matches going to a decisive third or fifth set. That included a loss to Lorenzo Sonego at Roland Garros after taking the first two sets.

Sinner Eager to Make Run

Sinner is looking to recapture the form he displayed when he took out Rublev and Carlos Alcaraz to reach the finals at the Miami Open.

After pulling out of his quarterfinal with Lorenzo Musetti in Barcelona in April, he was just 3-2 in the next two tournaments. Sinner won his opening match at -Hertogenbosch.

The last time he came to Halle, he fell in the first round of qualifying in 2019. When looking at the ATP scores, expect Sinner to be around a little bit longer this time.

What to Expect from Auger-Aliassime?

Felix Auger-Aliassime opened plenty of eyes with runs to the quarterfinal at Wimbledon and the US Open semifinals in 2021. Since then, he has lost in the first round in two of his last six Grand Slams.

He is hoping to put in the work on the grass courts to prepare himself for a deeper run at Wimbledon.

Auger-Aliassime had a recent stretch when he lost four of five matches with two losses to players ranked outside the top 100.

The most memorable of his five match wins in Halle was a stunning upset of Federer in 2021.

Hurkacz Eyeing Repeat

It has been a bit of a grind for Hurkacz since winning a pair of five-set matches at the Australian Open. He did win a 250 event in Marseille, but has dropped his last four meetings with top-20 ranked players.

He lost in the first round in Halle in 2019 and 2021 and almost suffered the same fate in 2022 before winning 6-4 in the third set against American Maxime Cressy. Wins over Auger-Aliassime, Nick Krygios and Medvedev gave Hurkacz the Halle crown.

Hurkacz is currently playing in Stuttgart.

Borna Coric and Roberto Bautista Agut are other seeded players in the tournament.
