WTA – National Bank Open Tennis: Top Ranked Swiatek Overwhelming Favorite

Can Canadian Star Bianca Andreescu Make a Run in Toronto?

Swiatek is the Betting Favorite at the National Bank Open

There are plenty of interesting storylines in this week’s WTA betting tips stop in Toronto, however, when it comes to the talented field of players, it looks like it is Iga Swiatek’s tournament to lose according to the National Bank Open tennis odds.

Swiatek is not as dominant as she was earlier in 2022 when she ripped off title after title, however the No. 1 player in the world is the heavy favorite to return to her winning ways.

Plenty of eyes will be on unseeded Canadian star Bianca Andreescu. Serena Williams and Venus Williams are other fan favorites in this field.

Here’s a look at the top contenders.

Swiatek Eyeing Seventh Win in 2022

There was a time when it looked like Iga Swiatek might never lose again.

Swiatek won six tournaments in a row, including the French Open as she lost six sets in 32 matches.

The top-ranked player in the country hasn’t advanced past the quarterfinals in her last two tournaments, falling to players ranked 37th and 45th.

She could be tested early with a potential second-round match with Veronika Kudermetova, fresh off a run to the semifinals in San Jose.

Swiatek is the heavy favorite according to the National Bank Open tennis odds at +225 and that has moved from +260 in the last 24 hours.

Keep Eye on Jabeur

The No. 2 choice according to the National Bank Open odds is No. 5 seed Ons Jabeur with +1100 National Bank Open odds. She is quite the story as the native of Tunisia finished the 2020 season ranked 31st and was 77th at the end of 2019.

She finished last year at No. 10 and was ranked as high as second this year.

Jabeur has already won twice in 2022 and has played in five finals including Wimbledon. There is a potential for Jabeur to draw Canadian Rebecca Marino in the second round and if that is the case, the crowd will certainly be pulling for an upset.

Halep Among Other Top Contenders

Naomi Osaka, Simona Halep and Coco Gauff are all players to keep an eye on.

Halep has moved to +1000 in the championship outrights and that trails only Swiatek in the National Bank Open odds. Add in Coco Gauff at +1200 and Naomi Osaka at +1400 and that is plenty of star power for those who bet online to consider.

The unseeded Osaka draws Kaia Kanepi in the first round with the winner facing No. 8 seed Garbine Muguruza.
Gauff, the No. 10 seed, will face fellow American Madison Brengle in the first round

Halep, the No. 15 seed, opens up against Donna Vekic. If she can win her first two matches, a potential showdown with either No. 2 seed Anett Kontaveit or Venus Williams could be awaiting.

Home Fans Pulling for Andreescu

While 10 players currently have better WTA tennis betting odds to win the championship than Bianca Andreescu, the Canadian fans will certainly get behind one of their own if she can make a run.

It won’t be easy with a first-round match against No. 11 seed Daria Kasatkina who is fresh off a run of winning the title in San Jose with a three-set victory over Shelby Rogers.

Andreescu won the title in this event back in 2019. She lost a tough three-set match to Jabeur in 2021 so she will look to get back to her winning ways in her home country. She is currently at +2200 in the championship odds.

Badosa Looks to Seal the Deal

Paula Badosa is one of three players currently at +1600 in the odds to win the title. She is coming off a run to the semifinals in San Jose.

She won the title in Sydney back in January but hasn’t advanced past the semifinals since. She did record a win over Gauff last week and will look to build off that win.

Aryna Sabalenka, who advanced to the San Jose quarterfinals, also comes in at +1600 as does Elena Rybakina. Rybakina could meet up with Gauff in the second round.

How Times Have Changed

It seems like just yesterday when the Williams sisters would be near the top of the odds regardless of which tournament they entered.

Serena Williams is tied for the 13th best odds (+2500) while Venus Williams is tied for 42nd at +30000.
Serena’s first matchup comes against Nuria Parrizas Diaz while Venus will face Jil Teichmann in the first round. Venus is the underdog at +425 in her first-round match,

The sisters couldn’t meet until the singles final and what a story that would be.

Fellow American Amanda Anisimova is showing up in the outrights at +2000 as is Anett Kontaveit to round out your National Bank Open tennis odds.
