The United States finds itself at No. 12 in the FIFA rankings the latest soccer news shows. Not bad, but not particularly good.

And if there is a way to describe the current state of the USMNT this feels fair. There has been nothing particularly spectacular about the United States, but there has been plenty of drama.
Let’s find out if the United States can string together a few drama-free weeks of soccer games at the 2024 Copa America.
GGG Should Feel That His Seat Is Warm
For reasons I am not entirely sure of, Gregg Berhalter appears to be unfireable. Yet, I do think that the US Federation could consider a change if the United States has a poor showing at Copa America.
There is more pressure than ever on this upcoming USA World Cup. This is unlike past decades when America did not have enough talent to win. The young talent is on the roster, but so far we have not seen a manager that has been able to unlock greatness.
With top players like Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie on the roster, there are no more excuses for the USA not to be able to make a deep run.
GGG, your seat should feel a bit toasty, and for good reason.
Copa America Prediction: ‘Merica Wins
For obvious reasons, I think the United States has a better chance to win Copa America than the World Cup. Let’s take a look at the path.
The USMNT has a very winnable Group C with Uruguay as the biggest threat to the USA snagging the top spot. As for the overall contenders, Argentina will be battling a potential letdown after not being so far removed from the 2022 World Cup title. Keep in mind that the tournament happened in December instead of its normal summer calendar.
When Argentina won the World Cup last year, Lionel Messi was invited to “eternalize” his mark at Brazil’s famous Maracana by leaving his footprints in the iconic stadium’s Hall of Fame 😮

To me, Brazil has the best chance to win, but the ongoing drama could derail their hopes. This leaves squads like Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador as the countries the USMNT would be battling.
Why not ‘Merica on its home soil?
World Cup Prediction: Brazil Tops Argentina
Every four years, I fill out my World Cup bracket and write in Brazil and Argentina in the final. Now, this might not be entirely true as some brackets will not play out logistically, but you get what I’m trying to say.

I would love to see this rivalry matchup in the final, assuming the United States does not do the unthinkable. The USA should get a boost by hosting the World Cup for the first time since 1994. Chances are this boost will not be enough to propel the USMNT to the final.
