San Francisco Giants Stats & Team History
The San Francisco Giants were initially founded as the New York Gothams in 1983 before changing the name to the Giants in 1885. The team relocated to San Francisco in 1958, keeping the same name. The Giants team stats show a long and successful history, with 20 World Series appearances, third-most among all franchises, and fifth in World Series trophies with eight. They also have the most wins by any franchise in MLB history.
San Francisco Giants team stats did not go as planned when the team moved out West. While in New York, the team won most of their World Series, winning five, the last in 1954. While in San Francisco, the team went through a 54-year World Series win drought, appearing twice in 1962 and 2002 and losing both series in seven games. In 2010, the Giants finally won a World Series in San Francisco, beginning a five-year run where the team won three World Series.
