Nothing Separating Dalakian vs Akui Fight Odds

WBA Flyweight Title Fight

Ukraine’s Artem Dalakian puts his unbeaten record on the line against Seigo Yuri Akui for the WBA Flyweight title.

Dalakian vs Akui fight odds can’t split the boxers, who are paying -115 to win, and Akui has the benefit of fighting in front of his home crowd.

It’s one of the featured fights on the boxing schedule this week.

Dalakian Into Enemy Territory

Credit Dalakian for putting his title up for grabs in Japan, which wouldn’t have been an easy decision.

It means there will be a big crowd at EDION Arena in Osaka, and although he’s fighting in enemy territory, Dalakian is a quality fighter.

The 36-year-old is 22-0 with 15 wins coming by knockout, and he won the WBA title when beating Brian Viloria in 2018.

He has since defended it six times, including quality wins over David Jimenez, Luis Concepcion, and Josber Perez.

We thought Dalakian vs Akui fight odds would favor the current champion based on his record. If the fight was anywhere but Japan, we would expect him to be around -150 with the sportsbook.

In terms of quality boxers, he might not be a household name, and he’s not a young up-and-coming fighter. However, he’s experienced and knows what it takes to win the big fights, so Akui is the one who has the most pressure to perform on Tuesday.

Is Akui Overrated?

We raise serious questions about the record of Akui, who rides a six-fight win streak.

The 28-year-old Japanese fighter hasn’t faced overly tough opponents, and all 21 of his fights have come in Japan.

He hasn’t tested himself against the best, and although his win over Taku Kuwahara in 2021 was good, Kuwahara had only eight fights prior to the loss.

There is a big boom with boxing in Japan and we believe boxing odds for Akui are a result of the success the country is having.

However, that means he’s overrated for this fight against Dalakian, who has the much better experience and is the current champion.

We rated him around a +130 chance, and we think money could come for Dalakian on fight night.

Akui’s last two fights were unanimous decision victories, so he hasn’t been knocking out opponents. He has 11 knockouts from 18 fights, and if he doesn’t have the power advantage, he could struggle to win over the judges.

Back the Champ

Dalakian vs Akui fight odds might have this as an even contest, but we’re firmly in Dalakian’s camp.

Being the champion comes with a lot of respect, and he’s held the WBA Flyweight title for five years, which isn’t easy to do.

Bettors get a lovely price at -115, and although younger fighters typically do well, experience could be the deciding factor.

Over 10½ rounds has been heavily backed into -275. Bettors expect the fight to go the distance, and we believe it will.

Dalakian to win by decision is worth including in boxing picks, but backing him to win at -115 is the best value for this headline fight.

Take the value before his odds firm, and we would have been happy to take the champion at -150.
