Serrano Heavily Favored in Rematch Versus Hardy

Amanda Serrano puts all four of her belts on the line as she rematches an old rival: Heather Hardy. The two put together a barnburner in 2019 and are ready to do it again even if the Serrano vs Hardy Fight Night odds have Serrano as a -1200 favorite. Serrano was supposed to rematch Katie Taylor as a sequel to their epic 2022 match. Now, she gets to redo another one of her classics.

Serrano and Hardy Rekindle Rivalry From 2019

In 2019, Heather Hardy put her WBO title on the line against Amanda Serrano. In a one-sided bout, Serrano beat Hardy to win her first title in the division. Flash forward to today and Serrano is the division’s undisputed champion while Hardy is on a comeback trail.

“I am the undisputed featherweight champion today because Heather Hardy agreed to fight me in 2019 for her WBO title,” Serrano said to ESPN. “That was the first step in my current run at featherweight. It’s only right that I give her the opportunity to earn it back.”

Serrano won five more fights and collected two more titles as she booked a “superfight” with the undisputed lightweight champion, Katie Taylor. This blockbuster event was a battle between women’s top two boxers at the time. And it was the first fight in 11 years that Serrano lost in what was a contentious a decision.

But Serrano quickly recovered from that loss and dominated her next two fights to become the first Puerto Rican to become an undisputed champion. She remains a heavy favorite for boxing bets but she’s been a reliable boxer to “whale” on given her boxing results.

Against Hardy, Serrano fights an opponent she’s beaten before. Hardy then moved up a weight class where she went 2-1. Now, she’s dropping back down to challenge Serrano not just for the belt she lost but for all of the others.

As the Serrano vs Hardy Fight Night odds indicate, Hardy has under a 13% implied probability of evening the score with Serrano at +650. She got beat badly in the first fight and appeared ready to be saved by the referee in some parts. Four years later and Hardy, now 41, is still outmatched.

Serrano For MVP: Will Another MVP Bout Lead to Next Big Fight?

This rekindling with Hardy is not the only reunion for Serrano. The 34-year-old is back with Most Valuable Promotions in what could once again be her launching pad for a bigger bout.

“I’m excited to once again share the card with Jake and put on an exciting war,” Serrano said as she will co-headline the event with Jake Paul for a third time. She first defeated Yamileth Mercado to defend her featherweight belts then moved up to lightweight to beat Miriam Gutierrez.

Both events did well in terms of box office and it gave Serrano the exposure to make that bout with Taylor. Now, she can use the momentum she gets from an impressive win here to re-book the fight with Taylor. The lightweight just lost against Chantelle Cameron in a close fight that could command its own rematch.

This Serrano vs Hardy Fight Night could sizzles despite the one-sided odds. The totals are expected to go over 8.5 rounds (-165) though not by much. Serrano could just finish Hardy and make Taylor vs Serrano 2 official in the later boxing fight schedule this year.
