Fury vs Ngannou Odds: Biggest Boxing Match Since Mayweather

Mega-Sized Tilt is Reportedly Happening in October

After years of back and forth, Tyson Fury will box Francis Ngannou this October 28. According to ESPN’s Mike Koppinger, the heavyweights have agreed to a match in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It will be a boxing fight with the typical rules, a 10-point must system, and three judges. While the rest of the details are yet to be revealed, the Fury vs Ngannou odds are already out and it favors the WBC champion moderately.

Fury-Ngannou is a Prize Fight at its Finest

As of today, it has not been revealed what the stakes will be in this fight. Fury’s WBC title may or may not be on the line. In fact, the bout may be an exhibition or will count towards both Fury’s and Ngannou’s professional records. What is guaranteed is that this will be a big-money fight and both Fury and Ngannou will get paid handsomely.

“We’ve had a lot of offers from the Middle East at the moment to host that fight over the summer,” Fury said over on the Out of Interest Podcast from Bloody Elbow. “(The purse is) private information, but let’s say it’s 10, 20, 30, f***** 50 times the amount (UFC fighters make).”

Ngannou last made $600,000 in the UFC when he defended his heavyweight belt against Ciryl Gane. Math may not be Fury’s strong suit, but assuming one of his figures is correct, Ngannou will make anywhere from $6 million to $30 million for this boxing match alone.

Fury himself may end up making more than Ngannou as he is the bigger name of the two. The lineal champion made at least $25 million in his last two bouts, which were rematches against Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora.

While it hasn’t been announced, Fury-Ngannou is most likely going to be on pay-per-view. And it’s worth prognosticating if this fight can be as big as Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Conor McGregor, which is the last time a boxing star fought a UFC star.

The Fight Itself: Can Ngannou Beat Fury?

At +550 on the Fury vs Ngannou odds, there is actually some hope that Ngannou can pull off this upset. After all, Ngannou has the greatest equalizer: his raw power. Ngannou has 12 knockouts in his MMA career with all but one coming in the first round. Many describe his power to be the “Death Touch” where he can put an opponent to sleep merely by touching them.

However, this is in mixed martial arts where there are other rules with different gloves. In boxing, Fury and Ngannou will likely use 12-ounce gloves. This may make it harder for Ngannou to transfer his vaunted power over.

And Fury is no sitting duck either. He is a large man and at 6’9” with an 85-inch reach, he will dwarf Ngannou. Fury is also incredibly durable and managed to withstand Deontay Wilder’s power shots for three whole fights. Wilder has 42 knockouts in 43 career wins. The only man he’s never finished is Fury.

“Tyson is the best heavyweight fighter in the world in boxing. Ngannou might be the best at MMA at heavyweight. So this fight is gonna be at boxing so you obviously gotta favor Fury a lot,” Otto Wallin, a former opponent of Fury told TMZ Sports. “[Tyson’s] fighting someone that’s making his pro debut as a boxer really. It’s a whole different sport, and as difficult as it’ll be for Fury to go over to MMA, it’s gonna be the same for Ngannou. So of course Fury’s gonna be a big favorite.”

Fury is listed at -900 per the Fury vs Ngannou odds, which roughly translates to an 85.4% win probability. Boxers like Wallin might say that’s too generous on the former UFC champion. But stranger boxing results have happened.
