Stanionis vs Ortiz Jr Odds Favour Challenger

WBA World Welterweight Title Fight

The WBA World Welterweight title is up for grabs in San Antonio this Saturday, and Stanionis vs Ortiz Jr odds expect Ortiz Jr to win.

Vergil Ortiz Jr is the WBO International title holder, but he needs to get past 14-0 champion Eimantas Stanionis to capture the world title.

The boxing schedule today has this fight as the premier fight this week, and the boxing odds have the challenger at -400 to win.

Champion Faces Toughest Test

The Lithuanian has yet to suffer a defeat, and he comes off a title-winning fight against Radzhab Butaev. However, this is his hardest test to date.

Winning the title is one thing, but defending it against someone like Ortiz Jr is another. As Stanionis vs Ortiz Jr odds suggest, the +300 underdog might not have his title for very long.

He hasn’t fought for over a year, another negative, so bettors are finding it tough to back him with confidence. Boxing today is about consistency, so the 15-month layoff is a worry.

It’s not his fault he fell ill, so it was beyond his control. However, he would have loved to fight in between the postponement. Thankfully, he recovered and returned to the gym almost straight away.

“After like, three days I started training. The doctor let me, so after two weeks I was completely 100%, I was ready to go,” insists Stanionis. “And after three and a half weeks, I started sparring,” although he avoided any direct body or liver shots in the early going. “Everybody makes a big deal with it. We were supposed to fight on March 18. I would be fit in that in that time. But I’ll take a little time off, it’s better.”

Another concern we have is his reach and height disadvantage. Ortiz Jr is the longer and taller fighter, which could make it tough for Stanionis to close the gap.

We’re not ruling him out of contention, and he’s the favorite for a reason, but it’s hard to disagree with the bookmakers’ assessment.

Ortiz Jr Eyes Title

The 25-year-old American has had his eyes on the WBA title for some time, and he could realize his dream on Saturday at AT&T Center.

He is a perfect 19-0, and all 19 wins have come by knockout. It’s rare to see such an impressive knockout-win ratio, so Ortiz Jr is a fighter for the future.

He is ranked second in the world, but it’s only a matter of time before he claims the top spot, and he could also become a household name.

His ninth-round TKO of Michael McKinson was a quality performance, and he’s also prepared to put his health problems behind him.

“My health is great. It’s honestly one hundred percent,” Ortiz Jr said.

“He’s a tough fighter so I’m not gonna say that I am gonna knock him out because I truly don’t know.

“Will I take the opportunity if I see it? Of course, as everyone else will. This is even me trying to be humble. This is a tough fight. I truly don’t know.”

Stanionis vs Ortiz Jr odds expect the local fighter to win, and based on his record, it’s hard to disagree. He has the world at his feet, and winning this title is just the start.
