Super Fight in Vegas
Alvarez vs Charlo is about as big as it gets. The middleweight titles will be unified, and only one will emerge victorious.
Mexican superstar Canelo is rated as one of the world’s best-ever pound-for-pound boxers, and his 59-2-2 record is a credit to that.
He fought John Ryder earlier this year when scoring a unanimous decision victory, which was a one-sided affair. He won almost every round, and he scored 120-107 according to one judge.
However, the latest boxing news suggests Charlo is ready for the challenge, and his first since knocking out Brian Castano in May 2022, but he does rise in weight, which is his biggest worry.
“Truthfully, I won’t really know until I actually get in there with the 10-ounce gloves,” Charlo said.
“Like I won’t know because of the fact that the power in the punches could be a little bit different with a 10-ounce glove. But I’ve been in the ring with lotta guys that’s like way bigger than Canelo, way bigger than me, and that’s because of the fact that you know, I was knocking guys out in sparring.”
We expect huge betting interest in the Fall Boxing 2023 headliner.
WBO Heavyweight Title
On September 23, Joe Joyce fights Zhilei Zhang for the WBO heavyweight title in front of a huge crowd at OVO Arena.
Joyce lost to Zhang in their first meeting in April with a sixth-round technical knockout (due to a damaged eye), so the British boxer needs to rebound from that devastating loss.
British heavyweight boxers are getting a bad name for not living up to their potential on the big stage, and Joyce is in danger of falling into that category.
Zhang had no right to win that fight. He was fighting in the UK and he didn’t have as much experience fighting top-level boxers like Joyce.
Credit to the Chinese fighter for taking another fight in the UK, and we love that about the -125 favorite.
We expect money to come for Zhang, as the world realizes how good the 40-year-old enforcer is.
Influencing Fights
Say what you want about the likes of KSI and Logan Paul, they are winning at life, and they have a big Fall Boxing 2023 schedule.
The Prime co-owners fight on the same card at the AO Arena in Manchester on October 14, and we’re actually excited.
KSI fights Tommy Fury, who is a legitimate boxer. Fury made Jake Paul look second-rate, so it will be an interesting fight over eight rounds.
KSI hasn’t beaten anyone of note, which is a concern. His technique is also laughable at times, but he still has raw power, and he’s putting the work in.
As long as he doesn’t lung forward, which he tends to do, and could avoid getting knocked out by Fury. However, the little brother to Tyson Fury deserves to be the -335 favorite, and end KSI’s unbeaten boxing ‘career’.
Logan Paul faces Dillon Danis, in what can only be described as a potential feel-good fight. Danis, who is possibly the most hated guy in the boxing community, is due to get rocked by Paul.
Google the size difference and you’ll see how far Paul has come physically, especially since joining the WWE. Now, we’re not saying he’s juicing, but compared to Danis, it’s noticeable.
He’s a -833 favorite for a reason, and it adds some intrigue to the boxing action in October.
