2023 WWE Summerslam Betting Preview

World Heavyweight Championship match and Triple Threat offer the best betting value

We start our 2023 WWE Summerslam odds preview by looking at the odds for the August 5th card from Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. This is the 36th annual Summerslam event. This will be the first time since 2007 that a WWE event is being held at Ford Field and the first Summerslam since 1993. WWE wrestlers are some of the best athletes on the planet, and their talents will be on full display Saturday.

Cody Rhodes is a -1500 favorite over Brock Lesner, and Seth Rollins is -140 to defeat Finn Balor for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The Women’s Championship is a triple-threat match featuring Asuka (-140), Charlotte Flair (+175), and Bianca Belair (+250). We continue our 2023 Summerslam odds preview by looking at a couple of specific wagers.

Women’s Championship Lacks Compelling Storyline

Most of the betting odds for the 2023 Summerslam are numbers that are simply too high to put money on the likely winner, but the Women’s triple threat offers a reasonable betting opportunity with Asuka, Charlotte Flair, and Bianca Belair vying for Asuka’s title.

The WWE has shown willingness to allow their champions to evolve with long title runs before handing the title to another. Asuka won the title at Night of Champions at the end of May, making the three-time champions reign 65 days as of Saturday. The last time Asuka held the title, the Japanese wrestler was champion for 231 days. Considering how stale the storylines are for Flair and Belair, there is no reason for Asuka to lose the title.

One thought to take into consideration, keep an eye out for Iyo Sky to potentially cash in her Money In The Bank briefcase. Sky doesn’t have numbers posted for her to win the title because the Triple Threat result is what a ticket will be cashed on, even if Sky cashes in. It wouldn’t surprise us if the WWE decided to throw some spice into this segment.

Balor Lacks ‘It’ Factor, Rollins Retains

With Seth Rollins on top of his game, the WWE won’t take the belt off of Rollins after winning the undisputed WWE Universal Champion, a belt exclusive to Smackdown. Balor, a former WWE Universal and 2-time Intercontinental champion, has never been a talent that should hold the title for a long run. The 42-year-old is an incredible talent but has never moved the interest meter like Rollins. The 2-time NXT Champion is on the winning side of most WWE results, but to take it off the white-hot Rollins would be a silly choice.

The WWE can continue to develop his storyline with Damian Priest without stripping Rollins of the title. Some have said that Priest may cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase on the winner of this match, but we think the heat between Priest and Balor needs more time. We conclude our 2023 Summerslam odds preview with a look at the rest of the card.

Contracts and Creative Differences Reflected In Odds

There are a couple of matches where WWE superstars are uncharacteristically massive underdogs because many anticipate that their run is coming to an end. For instance, Shayna Baszler is a -800 favorite against Rhonda Rousey, a number that would be switched if Rousey’s contract wasn’t ending. There is some talk that the 36-year-old is seeking a return to the UFC ring in the future.

For as much as she wanted to be part of the business, there are some rumors that she isn’t happy with her time in the WWE. No one needs a big-time push more than Baszler; she’ll get it here. Gunther is a -475 favorite to beat the once ‘chosen one’ Drew McIntyre. Gunther is close to breaking the Honky Tonk Man’s Intercontinental Championship reign of 454 days, no way they take the title off Gunther to give it to the disgruntled McIntyre.

That does it for our 2023 WWE Summerslam preview, we wish you nothing but the best with your wagers this weekend.
