Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Preview: Clash of Form & Fortunes
Another London Derby for Tottenham
Palace Host League Leaders
Tottenham won their third straight Premier League match on Monday, with a 2-0 win over Fulham. Spurs are on top of the Premier League table and they’ll try to keep it that way on Friday when they head to Crystal Palace. When Spurs head to Selhurst Park it’ll mark their second London Derby in the span of five days. Palace, on the other hand, should be motivated to bounce back from a 4-0 loss at Newcastle. We’ll see what both EPL teams’ odds are to win in our Crystal Palace vs Tottenham preview.
Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Head-to-Head
Tottenham have won their last three games on the EPL schedule vs Crystal Palace. Last season, Harry Kane scored in both the 4-0 win at Selhurst Park and the 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Crystal Palace have won just one of the last 16 EPL matches between the two sides. In the last five, though, Tottenham are 4-1.
Crystal Palace Struggling to Score
Crystal Palace had a match to forget in Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Newcastle United. Newcastle led 3-0 at the break and added another goal for good measure. Roy Hodgson’s Eagles got off 17 shots but couldn’t manage to find a breakthrough. It also marked the second EPL match in a row they failed to score in. A look at the Premier League stats show that only Bournemouth have scored fewer goals than the Eagles this season.
CPFC have scored just seven times in nine games so far but do have a 3-3-3 record. That’s good enough for 11th place at the moment and they’ve lost just one of their four matches at Selhurst Park so far. Crystal Palace vs Tottenham previews mention that CPFC have also kept three clean sheets in their last four EPL matches. The center back pairing of Marc Guehi and Joachim Anderson has been among the league’s best this season.
Hodgson will need them to stay at their best as long as key players Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise are out injured. Olise hasn’t yet suited up this season while Eze hasn’t played in either of the last two matches. Crystal Palace have relied on Odsonne Edouard for scoring this season as the French striker has four goals in eight appearances. Along with Eze and Olise, Jeffrey Schlupp is nursing a hamstring injury.
Tottenham’s Big Ange Sets Record
No Premier League manager had ever earned 23 points in their first nine matches with a new team before Tottenham won 2-0 over Fulham on Monday. Now Tottenham’s “Big Ange” Postecoglou has made history but he’ll be much happier if Tottenham are able to retain their place at the top of the EPL standings. After finishing eighth last season and losing Harry Kane, the Tottenham turnaround has been remarkable.
On Monday, Son Heung-min starred once again as he scored Spurs’ first goal and provided an assist for James Maddison. Tottenham have now won their last three games in the EPL and are still unbeaten, at 7-2-0. Son has scored seven goals already, while Maddison has also been superb in his short time at the club. The attacking midfielder has scored three goals and provided five assists. New goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has kept a league-leading four clean sheets, as well.
Even with a long injury list, Tottenham have managed great results so far. Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Rodrigo Bentancur are all out. Midfielder Yves Bissouma will return from a one-game suspension for this one, though.
Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Match Analysis & Odds
In this London Derby, Tottenham will head to South London looking for their eighth win of the season. Crystal Palace vs Tottenham previews note that Spurs are going for their fourth straight clean sheet in this fixture. Crystal Palace over 0.5 goals does show -220 odds here, though.
Crystal Palace are +310 home underdogs while Tottenham are -125 road ATS and moneyline favorites. Palace +0.5 sits at +105 odds and they haven’t lost at home since August. Both over and under 2.5, 3 goals sit at -110. Tottenham have kept two clean sheets in a row, though, while Palace have only conceded in one of their last four.
