Tottenham Hotspur Stats & History
Hotspur Football Club was founded in 1882 and renamed Tottenham Hotspur FC in 1884. They turned professional in 1895 and started out in the Southern League. One of the more impressive Tottenham Hotspur stats is their 1901 FA Cup win. In achieving it, they became the only club outside of the Football League to win the FA Cup.
They joined the Second Division of the Football League in 1908 and were promoted to the First Division in their first try. Spurs won their second FA Cup trophy in 1921 and finished second in the league in 1922. However, Spurs played in the Second Division for most of the 30s and 40s.Â
Under Arthur Rowe, Tottenham returned to the top tier in 1950, and they won their first league title one year later. Although Rowe resigned in 1955, Tottenham’s greatest-ever period began in 1958 under Bill Nicholson.
Tottenham Hotspur FCÂ Team Records
Tottenham won the league and FA Cup double in 1961. They also repeated as FA Cup winners in 1962, and won the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1963. The double is one of the most treasured Tottenham Hotspur stats, as it was the first in English soccer since 1897. Nicholson won eight major trophies in 16 seasons as manager.
Post-Nicholson, Tottenham struggled a bit and were briefly playing in the Second Division. However, a rebuilt team won the FA Cup in 1981 and 1982 and the UEFA Cup in 1984. With Tottenham’s 1991 FA Cup win, they became the first team to win the competition eight times.Â
Spurs were founding members of the Premier League in 1992, but are yet to win the league. During their EPL years, Spurs have won the 1999 League Cup and 2008 League Cup. Under Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs regularly played in the Champions League and finished second in the EPL in 2016-17.Â
Tottenham’s biggest rivalry is with North London neighbors Arsenal. Despite not winning at Arsenal since 2010, Tottenham have drawn four of their last eight matches at the Emirates Stadium. As of July 2022, Tottenham have won their last three home matches vs. Arsenal, which is worth considering when betting on their EPL odds. Looking toward 2022-23, the best betting advice would be to look toward Tottenham finishing the best outside of Liverpool and Manchester City.Â
