  • Nov 2020: Tottenham 2-1 Brighton
  • Dec 2019: Tottenham 2-1 Brighton

Brighton and Tottenham have split their meetings in each of the last two seasons. Both teams got shutout wins on the road last season. Tottenham have won three of the last five EPL fixtures but the last six meetings are exactly even. Brighton vs Tottenham betting previews should mention that only one of the last nine EPL matches has finished in a draw.

Brighton With Positive Start Under De Zerbi

  • Recent Form (All Competitions): D,W,L,W,W
  • Premier League Record: 4-1-2, 4th
  • Injuries and Suspensions: M Enock Mwepu (Day-to-Day), M Jakub Moder (Out)

The Roberto De Zerbi era officially got underway on Saturday as Brighton played in a six-goal thriller at Anfield. Leandro Trossard bagged a hat trick as Brighton blew a two-goal lead but came back to preserve a draw. De Zerbi was happy with the result and Anfield is certainly not an easy place to play.

De Zerbi, who replaced now-Chelsea boss Graham Potter, faces another difficult opponent on Saturday. He seemed to think that Brighton can score even more goals and early signs are positive. When he managed Sassuolo in Serie A, they regularly punched above their weight and played an attractive attacking style. It seems that he’ll expect similar things from his Seagulls players.

Enock Mwepu has been known to be a goal threat from midfield but the midfielder is still recovering from an illness. It’s uncertain whether he’ll be available on Saturday. Midfielder Jakub Moder is the only other name on the injury report. So, Brighton will have a strong side available for De Zerbi’s first home match. This season, Brighton are unbeaten at the AMEX Stadium and can go above Tottenham in the EPL standings 2022-2023 on goal difference with a win of two goals or more.

Setbacks for Tottenham in Big Week

  • Recent Form: D,L,W,L,W
  • Premier League Record: 5-1-2, 3rd
  • Injuries and Suspensions: D Emerson Royal (Suspended), F Dejan Kulusevski (Day-to-Day), F Lucas Moura (Doubtful)

It’s always a bummer losing in the North London Derby. Tottenham were thoroughly outclassed by Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on Saturday in their 3-1 loss. Plus, Emerson Royal was sent off for a rash challenge on Gabriel Martinelli and will be out for the Brighton match. Antonio Conte was happy with Tottenham’s performance on Tuesday in the Champions League vs. Eintracht Frankfurt. However, an unchanged Tottenham XI from the Arsenal match failed to score in Frankfurt and drew 0-0.

One positive that emerged from Tuesday was defender Ben Davies’ return. He’s been excellent as a center back under Conte and he came in as a sub vs. Frankfurt. It remains to be seen whether he’ll take Clément Lenglet’s place in the starting eleven. Tottenham played well defensively before Emerson Royal’s red card last weekend and are usually quite compact.

With Brighton coming up on the EPL schedule, Tottenham still have Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura on the injury report. They both look like they’re close to returning, so don’t be surprised if either one makes the matchday squad. Without a non-penalty goal in either of their last two matches, Conte will hope Spurs start finishing their chances.

Tottenham is currently listed as a pick’em, with Tottenham slightly more likely to win the match. Spurs show +155 odds to win, while Brighton come in at +185 odds.

Despite being favorites, Tottenham have just one win in four EPL road matches this season. Spurs have just one in six counting matches in all competitions. Brighton, meanwhile, are unbeaten at home, with two wins and a draw. Roberto De Zerbi can certainly gain the trust of the home fans with a result for Brighton here. While his players are usually able to express themselves freely in advanced areas, he has never been known for strong defenses. Let’s see if Brighton can improve on that end after conceding three goals to Liverpool last weekend.

The last three matches between Brighton and Tottenham have finished with two goals or fewer. So, it’s not exactly surprising that under 2½ goals is priced at -115 odds. Last season, this fixture produced just three goals in two matches. However, Brighton have found their shooting boots lately, and have scored in six straight matches, in all competitions. Tottenham have also scored in every Premier League match they’ve played in this season.
